Dell 3007 30" vs westinghouse 37" 1080p review!!!!

Hey guys, i just finished up my review of the dell 3007 30" lcd vs the westinghouse lvm-37w3 37" 1080p lcd.

Boy was it a pain to get started!!! Just to fit the westy i needed remove my upper hutch, as you'll see in the pictures.

One thing i noticed is that the dell requires you to use their dual link cable instead of a standard dvi cable. Keep this in mind that this may affect which video cards you may use.

All test were run on my machine, see the system specs below. All test were run in 8800gtx sli glory!!

Dell:
even though it is a hugh monitor for most, by the time i unpacked it, a set it next to the westy, it was really dwarfed!!!!
Setup seemed to be a slight issue with this monitor, once i changed the res to 2560x1600, i kept getting system lockup, once i'd reboot it was no problem, but changing anything with the display cause lockup, this happened even after i installed their software drivers, hmmm very strange. but evntually is started working no problem.
I would have tried to do side by side pix, like using the clone feature, but i wanted to run it all in sli glory to see what it could out out.

What i noticed with the Dell is that the fps, with all settings cranked were in the teen for oblivion, obviously this is a very demanding game, but as you can see in the pictures, it looks awesome!!!! Running around through the fields the graphics started to get a bit choppy, but still playable.

When i ran fear, depending on the stage i'd get different framerates. On the one pictured, i was hitting about 76fps, while in the pic with the westy it shows 54. In other stages with the dell, the fps did drop quite low, under 30 sometimes.

The dell has the upper hand in higher res than the westy, but honestly, you really cant tell (at least i cant) the differance between 2560x1600 and 1900x1080. The price is a tad bit high as well, if your a cad worker, graphics designer, this monitor is for you, as for games, it puts so much stress on the pgu its not even worth it, not even for bragging rights!!!

Westinghouse 37"
This thing is a beast 1080p in all its glory. It has plenty of hookups, unlike the dell. It has component, dvi, vga, hdmi, everything you need to go from pc, to xbox, to dvd. Keep in mind that even though this is considered a tv, its not, it doesnt have a tuner, its really just a 1080p monitor.

There were no setup issues with this monitor, you even get to use your old dvi cable, no dual link here. But for good measures i tried the dell one on here, and it made no differance at all. Once i turned on the pc, the monitor was recognised and away i went into 1900x1080 territory.

Now into the games, oblivion, again was on the low fps side teens to twenties, but when walking around in the grass fields, it stayed at the same rate, it didnt back down at all, so i guess the higher res does put a strain on it, but not as bad as 2560x1600 did as with the dell.

Now with some fear, like i said previously it all depends on the stage your on, but i could get 70+ frames playing on 1900x1080. As you can see from the pic, the detail is amazing at those resolutions. If you lower the res, on the dell or westy, picture still looks great, and your fps go up!!! at 1024x768 in fear, i was pulling in about 150fps!!!! Plus by playing on a screen this big, you feel like your right in the game!!!!

If your into gaming, then the westy seems like the perfect fit for you. it gives you high res thats playable, plus the wow factor when anyone sees this beast!!!

Dell
Pros:
Great resolution
looks good
no ghosting

cons: price $1500
caused some weird glitches when i first installed it
higher res lowers fps, even with 8800gtx's in sli, to the point of
being unplayable in oblivion

Westy
Pros: Price $950
games run and look great at 1900x1080
no ghosting
cons: Really big, may have to make furniture modifications
even at 1900x1080 with 8800gtx sli, some games were a bit jerky

side note: The lower fps maybe due also to crappy nvidia drivers that are out for the 8800gtx. i was expecting higher fps, but just couldnt get them. Once a decent set of drivers are out, i will re-review the westy for you folks.
Thats right, the dell is going back and im keeping the westy!!!

Enjoy!!

Frank

Do you have aim by chance? It may make it easier. I don't want to pollute the thread too much.
