1. I'm in the good ol' sunny Manila, located on one of the 7,000+ island of the Philippines.
it's really nice down here, if you're looking for a nice tropical getaway you should consider coming down here!
Don't forget to bring lot's of sunblock with you, I was playing some soccer the other day and calling me sunburnt would be an understatement!
(Well worth it thought!
2. Well I'm not going to tell you that I come from a poor family or anything, the only reason I don't have a decent rig is because my parents won't buy me a decent gaming PC, the fact that I'm a overworked student doesn't really leave me any time to get a job unfortunately, so I try to get by 'gaming' (I'd use that term loosely considering just how 'powerful'
my Mac Mini is) on my Mac Mini which has nothing more than Intel's HD 3000 which doesn't do much for anything nowadays really.
Sure I could have gotten it sent back and got a gaming PC for around $500 instead of this but it was a Christmas gift and it just wouldn't feel right.
Funny story actually, my mother asked me for some advice on a computer, she was on Apple's website and she was looking at a couple of Macs, I suggested that she should get the base model 13" Macbook Pro (it was perfect for what she needed to do, so that's what I suggested she should get) she then went on to say that she didn't want to spend that much on a computer (the same person who spends $1000+ on handbags
) so I said that she should go with the base model Mac Mini instead as it was basically the desktop version of the 13" Macbook Pro.
Sure I could have built a better computer for the $600 or so that it was going to cost, but I realised that a Mac would be perfect for her knowing that it's simple, elegant and all that.
Fast forward to around the 20th of December, my dad stumbles in my room drunk and tells me that I got a Mac for Christmas and I should be happy and proceeded to go upstairs, at first I was like what did just happen?
Come Christmas day 2012, we unwrapped our presents and the moment I ripped off some of the gift wrapping on my present, I saw that all too familiar Apple logo and I was hmm what could this possibly be?
Well it was the same Mac Mini that I helped pick out for my mother (she didn't get one herself so she stuck with her crappy Dell Inspiron laptop) I was pretty happy as I've always had a soft spot for Macs as I couldn't help but be incredibly jealous when my friends would use their Macbook Pros at school while I typed on my absouletly powerful Toshiba laptop with its revolutionary, benchmark-busting Intel Pentium processor and 2GBs of RAM, did I mention it had the infamous Windows Vista?
So I was grateful, I couldn't be any happier as I finally had a Mac to call my own along with a Wireless Apple Keyboard, a Magic Trackpad and the remote, it was admittedly the most well designed computer I've ever seen in my life (well I haven't seen the Phantom 410 yet), I plugged it into my 32" 1080P TV and it booted up all fine and dandy, my parents were amazed by how good OSX looked (they're not very into computers).
After playing with OSX for a couple of weeks, I picked up a copy of Windows 7 and proceeded to install it on my Mac, I installed Modern Warfare 2 and a couple of games that I struggled to run on my Toshiba laptop's Intel GMA 4500MHD and to my delight they played a lot better and I was happy, well at least until I saw what my friend got for Christmas.
He got an amazing gaming rig, a watercooled i7-2600K running on a Maximus IV Extreme along with two (that's right two!) GTX 590's which were all watercooled, safe to say I got laughed at when I told him I got a Mac Mini for Christmas.
To make me feel even worse, he proceded to fire up Crysis and turn the settings up as high as he could, first I was like:
Right after that I ended up staying at his place for the night so I could play Crysis!
Ever since that wonderful experience, I've been hooked on PC Gaming, but as you might have already noticed, my little Mac Mini isn't a top of the line gaming machine, to actually get 'playable' (and I use that term lossely again
) I had to drop settings down to their absolute lowest and 'play' (more like watch a slow motion film) it at 800*640.
So yeah, I would do anything for a decent gaming computer that I could call my own, something I could stay on, something that would let me enjoy the simple pleasure of turning up eveything to the absolute maximum without ever having to worry about the game in question turning into a slideshow (damn you Intel intergrated graphics!
) and just something I can keep on modding and doing stuff with till it puts me in financial ruin.
I'm sure there's lots of other people that could use your computer better than I could but if I do win it, I guarantee you that it'll go to a good home and I'll treat it well, (I will be turning up everything to the max but I'm sure it can handle it!
) and don't worry I'll feed it games and driver updates as often as I can to keep it nice and healthy and running in tip top shape!
I know for a fact that beggars can't be choosers so if I do win anything at all, I'll be forever grateful to you and I'll pay it forward as soon as I can.
if I don't well all I can say is that your generosity is just:
In all seriousness I hope something really awesome happens to you in the near future, you deserve it! Edit:
For your entertainment, here's my current setup:
Gotta love my ultra-high definition 19" Samsung with it's revolutionary capability to only fit one window!
Not to mention my monster gaming rig in my ultra small form factor Mac Mini that chokes on 3 year old games at 720P! Edited by StayFrosty - 5/7/13 at 7:22am
