[Freebies] Second Annual Shion314 OCN Giveaway - Full Rig and more [CLOSED] - Page 28

In for top 3 prizes biggrin.gif and maybe the mystery prize.
Location: Albuquerque, NM

Prize #1) Due for a new GPU, currently have a GTX 480 a.k.a Dragon. The GPU starts baking my room and since I live in New Mexico, it already is baking (I start to sweat after a couple hours of gaming -.-).

#2) Probably the sexiest monitor I've ever seen. Could also let friends use this during LANs, they use the old CRTs at home.

#3) Would like to get back into water cooling, my pump broke over a year ago and hadn't been able to buy a new pump since then. Kind of a stupid story, but before I went to a LAN party (3 days long) I flushed my entire system with tonic water. I used UV lighting to light up the tonic water which gave my system the sickest ghost blue coloring. After a couple hours at the LAN, my PC started to artifact. Turns out, the tonic water pressurized my loop and started to leak all over my video card and mobo. I panicked and went home to clean it, I spent over 12 hours spraying/submerging my parts with isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Some how, some way I came back the next day exhausted and brought a working tonic water cooled PC. I made sure to dilute the tonic water with water to minimize carbonation and to leave my reservoir open. Everyone, including myself thought that I had fried my PC the day before.

A few days after the LAN, I did what I always do; wake up, turn on PC, and look at news. I look over and my on-board CPU temp reader reads 81C (yes, 81C). I started to worry and noticed a huge air bubble forming in my loop. I touched the CPU water block and it burns me like a hot plate. After turning the PC on and off, I found out that my pump wasn't pumping any liquid. I figured the sugar or something had to of broke the pump. This same PC is still working and currently on air with all the water cooling parts boxed up in the closet.

Also, major props for holding this contest by yourself

I don't really have much of a story since my life isn't particularly interesting so here's an attempt, Well I'm an engineering student at university and my life is what you would expect, Study, eat Gym and procrastinate, that's mostly what I do tongue.gif I am quite lucky to be living at a dorm too which has it's perks such as 250mb/s internet. I am tight on money but I probably don't deserve/need this as some other people out there, but then again competitions are never really fair.

Ohh Now I remeber something: at around 8:00pm the way to the gym my friend bet me I couldn't cartwheel as well as him, so I handed to my other mate my student card and towel and so did my friend who made the bet. Now after said cartwheels my friend sprinted away with our stuff. Next minute there was four of us running around the university grounds, I eventually caught up to my friend and he dropped our stuff on the ground and kept running, I find that my student card is missing, so two of us stay behind looking for my student card for half an hour, eventually a gentleman finds the card. then after that I'm too tired to do my workout properly.

Not particularly funny but I hope you found that entertaining wink.gif

I don't know if this is a story but oh well. I only ever had 3 desktops. My first computer was an old Dell Dimension 4000 series if i recall, got it from my dad since his workplace threw a bunch of them away in favor of new ones. I got a new graphics card for it a bit later as a Christmas present, which i later discovered was essentially the same as the one already in it, except it wasn't a gimped version of the card. I had this for quite a while until i finally gathered enough money to buy a new PC, specifically to play Crysis, and with a GTS 8800 that was somewhat possible. The old Dell i sat up next to my new one which allowed me and my best friend to start playing games together, since he didn't own a computer. Many a day after school was spent there. Then at one point, it started to get a bit behind, couldn't run the new things all that well anymore, so i decided it was time for a new one, and by this point i had a decent amount of money, so i got an I7 920 and a 5870 plus the, in my eyes, most awesome tower i could find, also hoping to do watercooling at some point. My old computer was then lent to my friend, replacing the by then, horribly dated Dell.
But then i had to move to the other part of Denmark to study, so i helped him build his own computer since he finally had the money for one. And now we can still play together as a result.

On another note, i can't quite handle the thought that my mobile Nvidia card in my laptop runs Metro Last Light better than my dekstop, this will simply not do. But sadly now i don't really have the money to do anything about it, so maybe i will get lucky here.

Im in for 1,2,4,5,7

my Location is Upstate, New york

Im not much of a story teller but I NEED new mobo, cpu, ram for my newly gained 7870XT that I spent all my tax money (and then some) to get.
I could really use your backup rig so I could my mom, who is currently using a 10+ yr old dell laptop with the screen broken and hooked up to another. it runs at 90% cpu usage just on the desktop... it takes over 5min to just load google... Or I could finally have my roommate game with me, he has a acer laptop that has problems running, well... everything...

Another reason I could use these items is because current case cant even have its side on, for my 7870xt I bought, I also bought a PSU, and mistakenly not a modular one. So my computer looks like medusa right now.

I have no job, no forsee-able job/income anytime soon because of a disc herniation I have; I can't stand for more then 3 hours, let alone doing physical work so no one will hire me. mad.gif The next time I could MAYBE upgrade my own rig to let rig run well without bottlenecking my card, would be Christmas, but how am I upgrading a case,CPU,mobo, ram with 50$... xD
The monitor anyone could want/ use but the tv I have now is too big for my room. let alone it only runs 1360x768, who wants to play on that?

If I were to be able to win any of your prizes it would be a godsend, If I were to win your backup rig, I think I would literally cry from the sheer joy. wubsmiley.gif

I have been trying to stay out of this thread, but the opportunity to try better gear than I have is too tempting. I am very happy with my basic setup, but your stuff sounds amazing.

I am from Escondido, Ca.

Hmm, a story. Ok......
A while back I was riding at Lake Elsinore MX and was having an awesome time. I was battling it out with a couple buddies of mine and my little brother. We would make dirty passes on nearly every corner and the amount if grinning was starting to actually hurt. After about 3 laps of constant battling, I thought I would try to do a section of the track that none of us were doing in order to open a little gap on everyone. The jump in question is basically a man made mountain about 30 ft high that consists of a single step-up into a table. Overall the jump is about 80 ft long. The corner before the setup jump I railed on the outside and had a great drive up the face, and as I was taking off, I saw the rest of my group pull back. While I was in the air, I was stoked. Then I saw the landing go by. Needless to say, my heart sank. The amount of panic rev was unbelievable, even for a chronic over revver like myself. I landed about 15 ft past the landing and hit the ground so hard that i dislocated both of my rists. Both of my rists bent up at a 90 deg. angle and I ended up steering to the side of the track with my upper arms and chest (both of which had a large purple bruise across them from hitting the bars so hard). Once on the side of the track, I couldn't move my hands back to normal, so I did the only thing I could think of and hit them under the bottom of the bars to bend them back. Amazingly, it worked, but the pain was immense. Needless to say, my day of riding was done. I rode back to my truck while constantly moving my hands around to make sure there was no additional damage.

I did go to the doctor the next day to make sure they were ok. There was some swelling and discomfort, but no broken bones. He said I was lucky and that continuing to ride was a bad idea. Ha! Several dislocated knees, and broken knee cap and many bruises later, I still can't wait to get back on the track.
It's so little!

I'm not much of a story teller so I will just say a reason I want this.

My rig is performing fine in all honesty, however my father is currently using a Phenom II X6 rig but he can't overclock because he has bad cooling and a bad board for it and his current graphics solution is merely a GT 620. So if I were to win this I would allow him to use my current GPU, case, mobo, cooler, and ram. Pretty much everything lol and I would use his old components to throw together an HTPC with my Phenom II X4 in it. So essentially I would get an upgrade, I would allow my father an upgrade, and I would throw together a decent HTPC.

Also, it takes a really kind person to give away such an awesome computer thumb.gif To be honest I don't think I could do that if I was in this situation.

I'm in for the grand prize! thumb.gif

Reason being: The only computer I have currently is a 13" Macbook Pro. I used to have a rig but I needed to sell it. So I think it's safe to say my MBP is underpowered compared to the grand prize rig. I hope I can be considered because the only thing close to fiddling with computers I'm able to do is regularly checking OCN and living vicariously through it!
