[Freebies] Second Annual Shion314 OCN Giveaway - Full Rig and more [CLOSED] - Page 7

I'm sat here with my ass planted in this luxuriously comfy, fake leather office chair - With my fake Logitech microphone and a mouse-mat from a company that closely resembles a name for a Green Peace group, but you know what? It all works, very well in-fact. However, may I draw your attention to my monitor that sports a 1'' thick bezel and some curves that would put Susan Boyle to shame, yes - I'm talking about you HH221! WRETCHED EVIL! My wonderfully budget priced HANNS.G monitor - I wonder how long it took them to come up with that? Still, while I'm sat here weeping at my shocking contrast ratio, light bleed and under saturation, at least my monitor shares it's appreciation with its nuisance buzzing noise.
And so I draw you back to me, a student, an artist but also a friendly person (On occasion) who simply endeavours to enjoy a moment with my good friend ClapTrap in Borderlands 2 on a nice monitor... biggrin.gif

That is, unless Lara Croft doesn't wet my appetite.

I'm still looking at you... HH221 - Revenge is close.

I remember your first giveaway, if I recall correctly, it was a 680 you gave away last time, and a 6950 to the best post writer? tongue.gif

Of course, before everything, I'll confirm reading the whole OP, as you asked to.
So, why do I need this gear for? Not a sob story though, but it would be awesome to have a high end GPU or GPU's for once, and observe how smoothly they run C3 and other games. It would also be awesome to try watercooling for the first time in my life. I have always been interested in this, and learned the whole topic by myself, but never had the chance to actually watercool, so I guess that would be a great opportunity to start. As a student, I study most of the week till it's dark, and I don't really have time to work at all, as I need to go over the lectures once again in my free time to actually understand everything, and to actually manage to convince myself that it's indeed logical and makes sense (that can be pretty frustrating when you don't understand the point in what you're studying, that has happened to me quite a lot), but thankfully, I'm doing quite fine, and manage to understand at least most of what's being studied (it's a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, by the way. One of it's key principles in programming, which I like very much. Math and physics? Not THAT much. tongue.gif).
That's pretty much it, there's no reason to write stuff like - "I'm poor and I can't afford buying a second hand P4", as I'm positive that you can figure out who's actually sincere.

To the date of this post - 3 years in OCN, 570 rep, and 2856 posts - that's (6 + 57 + (10 + 9) = 82 entries), but that probably will be updated later on.

Thanks for the chance to participate in that extraordinary giveaway !

I live in Israel, as written under my avatar.

That's some nice prizes. Location is under avatar. I'm not much of a story teller either. Have absolutely terrible memory. It's like I have selective memorization, only remember what I am interested in (which isn't a lot). I guess that will make me a terrible grandparent when my grandchildren wants to hear my stories lol.

whoa crazy giveaway!
1-
its totally fair your giving contributing OCN members a little advantage smile.gif we deserveit. its great all the new guys have a chance also very generous person.
2-
. Well one day i was driving the work truck to the dump, after a long day of demolition i had to unload about 3 tonnes of building debris by myself,by hand no less. Glass, steel door frames, doors, drywall (gyproch) etc was the most of it.After i finished i was all ready to go home for a well earned beer. when out of the corner of my eye i spotted a CM centurion case burried under a bunch of old tv,s and computer monitors. i could just see the aluminium edge of it glissening in the afternoon sun. Even though i was quiet tired and back was aching, i thought i cant just leave it there without opening it up, if i did it would be mind for days...
So i started digging through all the bulky old TV's getting scratched by sharp metal cases and broken fax machines i managed to pull the old beauty from certain death. I unscrewed the side panel screws to reveal some half decent looking hardware. 8800GT 512mb,
GA-P35-xx cant remember exactly, 550W CM PSU, extra gigabit networking card, but i didnt know what type of cpu yet....
I put it proudly next to me in the passanger seat, staring at it every now and then on my way home, wondering what glorious processor was at the heart of it.
I got home and my Wife scolded me, "Not more junk to add to the pile"she said... "its not junk"! i replied as i continued to the spare room where i tinker. i couldnt wait to remove the stock heatsink and see what was beneath. i quickly pulled it off wiped away the old hard thermal paste to reveal it as a C2Q Q6600 smile.gif. i cleaned the dust out and fired here up. BEEP! damn it wouldnt boot frown.gif i was felling quite let down. but not to be beat i started trouble shooting. checked psu was plugged in and all fans spinning etc BEEP! go, damn i thought it is "junk. i had one more idea, i swapped out the RAM for some others i had, fired her up and she booted. so happy with myself i quickly posted my find on OCN. Not knowing much about socket 775 at the time, i was asked what stepping G0 or B3? i was told they ocd way better if G0. to my amazement G0 it was!!! so i oced that baby to 3.6Ghz and folded for OCN. Until my sister and partner needed a PC, so i reefurbed and added a 550Ti to boot. now every time i see them they tell me how much faster it is than their old C2Duo laptop, its amazing they say. smile.gif , and im reminded of that glorious find, happy that those parts still live on serving yet another master, instead of lying cold, un-overclocked and un-used in the cold dirt of landfill smile.gif

3-
backup should be named Bender, as he is a faithful sidekick smile.gif
did i do this right and do i have to re-post for all other entries i am eligible for? think im eligible for 23 entries?

I of course would be very interested! Many thanks for the giveawsay Shion! I will say that if I do win I'll piece out my old rig and do some giveaways as well. As for my story - really I just play WoW, Bloons TD5 Deluxe, and the occasional retro game, but recently I keep having to lower my underclock to keep my PC stable. I figure eventually my processor is just going to degrade into a stock form or less so that's why I'd really enjoy winning the grand prize. The other item that would be sweet would be the monitor but I have to shoot for the moon here! As for my location, I'm currently living in Toledo, OH USA - a grand old city that... meh, who am I fooling... I live life here working for Costco.

Hey Shion,

First off, thanks for this super generous freebie to this community.

I have read the entire OP smile.gif

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Every 10 rep is 1 entry.

Every 6 months on OCN is 1 entry.

Every 50 posts up to 500 posts is 1 entry. So at 500 you get 10 entries from posts. Past 500 every 250 posts will net you an additional entry.

6 (Mar 2010) + 10 (500 posts) + 2 (remaining posts) + 11 (110 REP) = 29 entries.

I would really enjoy to win any of that awesome gear. That monitor would be especially sweet, such a nice looking display.

If I won your backup rig, it would most likely become my main PC, and then my i7 920 would become my 24/7 folding rig. I would enjoy winning anything because right now there isn't a lot of disposable income to put toward my love of computers and I really enjoy setting up and installing new hardware. I am also passionate about Distributed Computing so all of that hardware would be working hard for scientific purposes.

Anyhoo, thanks for the chance. I hope your generosity comes back to you sometime in life as you will likely make several people's year by winning some of this awesome stuff.

Take care,

PS[edit]: From NS, Canada

I`m 18 I was saving from a new rig (in 2014 I would be buying from OCN) since in Venezuela hardware is relative more expensive than any other country from Latin-America, here We have a limited amount of dollars per year ( for electronic purchases so I only have 400usd in 2014, this year I bought a Phone but I sold it for about 3x less than its value in Venezuela)goverment recently rose dollar from 4.3Bsf to 6.3bsf mad.gif, I am Studying System Engineering but I would need to have a new pc bcuz mine is a bit outdated Q8400+Integrated video( my HD 7870 gave artifacts so I took out of my pc), I would use it for programming, gaming, benchmarking, testing some fans setup for a review in OCN(biggrin.gif), and my actual pc I would gave it to my parents since theirs is outdated too (E7400+1GB). This would save me about 10x times its value only shipping and taxes(20% tax from articles w/ more than 100usd and recently courrier rose prices of shipping per pound bcuz Venezuelan econom is the worst in the world) could kill my budget(more), but also I would like those DDR3 mem since I like their height and overclock:performance ratio over price:p. any of those prizes are too good to be truth at least for me in Venezuela where everything is expensive(except gasoline and water tongue.gif) and no one would do these type of gifts

Good Luck to all

Edit: the way I ship form USA to Venezuela is using a courrier which is located in Miami,FL and they ship it to me

Edit2: at the time I did this post I had 4144 posts/232 Rep

What beautiful contest. I hope to enter reaching at least 50 posts before the end even if there will be very low chances of winning.

1. The thing that makes sure you read this post. It's easy to figure out if you read this full OP. Without it I won't count you in.
1. Thanks from Tulsa, OK.

A story of some sort as for why you want this or whatever. I could care less. This is more for my enjoyment and for your chance at the 4th mystery prize.
2. Would like it to upgrade my rig. I'd give it to the wife. The wife's currently using a C2Q rig which I'd like to move to htpc detail.

Whatever else you wanna put in. I don't care. Just don't go too far off topic, stick to the TOS, and no large obnoxious pictures. Keep it clean but amusing.
3. Apples.

I believe I have 13 + 10 + 3 + 4= 30? Something like that.
