[Freebies] Second Annual Shion314 OCN Giveaway - Full Rig and more [CLOSED] - Page 9

1. Math isnt my favorite subject but Im pretty sure I have the required amount of posts, reps and what not: 1252 posts, 39 reps and Im a member since July 2010 and Im located in Vancouver Washington.
2. Well before I got this system I was folding quite a lot and had a lot of enjoyment in it. People would ask me why I have such a powerful system that is running 24/7 and I would tell them, "Im folding." That would start a topic for hours and in the end result, I would get them involved. My current build isnt quite equiped for folding. Electricity expenses are through the roof when under full load, and it just doesnt seem to work as well as when I was folding on a 2500k and then the 3570k. This system would be fully dedicated to folding for team OCN and I would get my enjoyment, and satisfaction back. Id feel like Im doing something for a cause again instead of just gaming.
3.Currently Im fully involved in World Of Tanks. Great game for teamplay and strategy. I have two kids, and this seems less violent for them to watch me play when compared to BF3 or any other game that involves people killing others. My wife enjoys that I have a hobby that keeps me at home and always available to lend a hand in whatever she needs help with.

Wanted to also add, Id love anything on your list for giveaways, that 3d monitor would be sweet to try out, and the ram is top notch and that case is way better then what I currently have. I cant fit all my radiators in my case frown.gif
The games as much as I love, like I said Im fully into WOT but will defiantly give them a try if I get them.
So whatever I win I will be happy. But the grand prize will do me the most benefit. wink.gif

Thanks for the opportunity. I know you dont have to do this but you are. Its people like you that make Overclock.net an awesome place that keeps me coming back daily.

I think I have about 3 entries if my math is right...

1. Torrance, CA

2. Your back up rig will be my main rig! It is ways better than my current rig right now. This current rig if I win, will be given to my wife who I keep pushing to join the community of Overclockers and Gamers. I haven't succesfully done so because she would always say that she doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars just to try out a new hobby.

3. Hmmm... I hate the Kardashians and Justin Beiber! Oh wait I went far off topic.... Well, lastly I just want to everyone for building this awesome community! And especially to those that have a generous heart to give away freebies!

Thanks for another give-away OP!

Located in NYC (Queens to be exact, only movie I can think about that featured Queens was Coming to America with Eddie Murphy).

Currently have

881 posts, 33 Rep and been on OCN for 2 years and 4 months so

(10 + 1) + 3 + 4 = 18

Sat out your last give-away but I'm not restricted on this one so thank you!

Don't have a good story like the rest. My backup rig started to die on me and would be nice to have a stable backup system.

If I won, probably end up swapping parts around my systems and trying to make 1 stronger gaming system.

Again thanks for the chance and good luck everybody!

1) Ontario canada! yay
2) Perhaps a high end dual GPU setup from Nvidia will convert me from an AMD loyalist? Did they fix their 'DualView' bug, where you had to restart your PC if you temporarily disconnect a DVI cable and reconnect (DualView option disappears permanently)? That is a PITA.
3) "All of your parts are belong to us", cuz starcraft is awesome.

If i won that Samsung Green ram, it will take an OVERCLOCKING BEATING.

If i won that monitor, it looks perfect to bring to LAN parties.

I am from the 80s, so blood dragon is AMAZING.

If I won that case, I would switch my trusty modded Antec 300 for something way better tongue.gif

So in other words, all your prizes are awesome.

Shion, as others have stated this is really a great and unique way to help out the other members here at OCN. I discovered this site in the middle of the year 2012. At the time I was running a crummy craptop my brother gifted me for Christmas the year before. I LOVED that laptop to death as it was the first computer that I had owned in almost a decade. At different points in my life I had held very good jobs in the IT sector. I did everything being the IT help desk manager for a Fortune 50 company to Web Design Dept manager for a small independent ISP to going into business for myself. This last is where things really started to fall apart. I was actually doing quite well for myself, had a house bought and paid for in 4 years near Avon, CT. I was busting my hump finding clients, meeting clients, designing sites and doing the backend programming. I was working 18-20 hours a day and I loved it. My wife, ex wife now, on the other hand did not. She was constantly complaining, from the time she woke up, til the time she finally started snoring. All I heard all day was, "You never spend any time with me." "You never pay attention to me." "I never see you!"

Now mind you, I was working for myself. I worked out of our house in our finished basement which I had turned into my office. It had every amenity you could think of. Sofa, loveseats recliners, tables chairs, TV's, pool table, extra computers etc. Everything one might need to entertain clients. I would tell her, "Come down to the office with me." Things along those lines. I was working like a mad man. There was a reason behind that as well. I had moved to CT shortly after I graduated HS down in the DEEP South. In a little town called Adel, GA. Talk about small town, at the time there were 4 red lights, 2 grocery stores, 2 gas stations, and 50 churches. The average graduate from HS there wound up either busting their backs doing farm work or manual labor, the lucky ones would find a job doing factory work. A lo got out through the military. I had gotten out and through the luckiest of events had met a friend who was getting their masters in CS at MIT. I read every book that Mike had, I have excellent reading comprehension and retention skills, borderline photographic memory if I read it. I learned C+ C++ BASIC PERL and a host of other programming languages including HTML. HTML as simple as it is would be the one that really changed my life, in addition to that I had a very good design sense and was fairly graphically talented. Which is a big help when designing and developing web sites.

I kept in contact with my friends in GA for awhile and we would compare what we were doing. Most of them were working minimum wage jobs, I with my HS diploma and what I had learned on my own was working for various Fortune 100 companies in IT depts. making TONS of money. It was almost like a fairy tale, good ole southern boy makes good! Looking back now, I realize just how lucky I had been and appreciate how the winds of fortune can change so quickly and drastically.

Back to the ex wife, I had flown out to California to meet some clients who wanted me to design some Pron sites for them. I know, that might sound kind of sleazy to some, but I was running a business and paying bills and putting money aside for the future. I finished up my business a day early and flew home. I was excited to be home, the deal I had made was going to pay quite well upfront and the residual's were going to be great. I got home and walked into the house, went up stairs and was wondering where my wife was, she didn't work. She was no where to be found, I shrugged it off and thought she might have gone out to eat with a friend or whatever. As I walk down the hall to our bedroom I see that the room is lowly lit, as I near the door I hear the sounds of sex. I didn't think anything of it, she's watching some pron and double clicking her mouse, right? NO I walk through the door and there she is, in flagrante delicto with another guy.I'm like WT!??????? Sotonot get into much more of that, she wound up leaving that night and filing for divorce before the week was out.

We divorce, the judge gives her the house and most of our accumulated property. She hadn't worked since we had been married and the judge thought it best if she was taken care of. I decide to return to GA to visit family and friends which I hadn't seen in almost 10 years. I live off of my savings and enjoy life a little, meet some women who were "fast" and into some crazy things, illicit drug usage and things of that nature and I joined them. Before I know it 8-9 months have passed and I am broke! I start looking for a job and quickly realize that the South is still 10 years behind the rest of the country technologically speaking. This was a few years after the Dot COM bubble had burst and it was impossible to get a job in IT without a college degree. So all the years of experience I had were all for naught. I am forced to find a lovely minimum wage job flippin burgers and slinging hash at a Waffle House. I went from making ~$75/hour to make $5.25 an hour. Now, my friends, that is something that will really screw up your head and self esteem lol. There were many more dark days like that, many, many more.

In the last few years I have begun concentrating my work experience and jobs towards industrial maintenance, I now work as a maintenance tech in an automated sortation environment, working on conveyors and forklifts as well.Life has taken a turn for the better for me, again.

I built a very good system for myself this year. An amd fx-8350, 16gb corsair xms3 ram, an msi tf III 7950, a sabertooth mobo, an antec kuhler 920. As I was building this system it all came back to me, how much I loved working in IT and building and creating systems, networks, and sites. I am trying to open an honest to god computer building/modding parts store here in Savannah GA where the next best thing is a BestBuy rolleyes.gif I need a system that I can use for this business which is slowly starting to take off. I have been buying parts from the market place here on OCN to build demo and showroom models to show people what is possible. I want to demystify the computer and its workings to the people in this area. Please help me to help them biggrin.gif

1. a. The point break down for the rep, posts, and time at OCN is fair and well done! b. You are going to be reading a lot of "number 1" statements in order to determine that someone has read the full OP --> NJ, USA. c. Your backup system is one serious backup system!

2. It would be a solid way to get my hands on some high end equipment to tweak and its a freebie. I would take your back up rig as my rig and then my GF could use my current rig then we could get some sweet lan parties going. also that would be some beast folding power coming from those 680s.

3. Cheers to you for making this freebie more engaging and entertaining then other freebies!

EDIT: location added was in my avatar though.

1) I live in New York in Queens. I have 13 rep, 372 posts before posting this, and had joined OCN in May. That means that I've been here since May which is weird since it felt longer than that.

2) I would love to try out new things and it seems that ha taken a hit in the budget. I would love to try water cooling though. It seems to be a cool personal endeavor. I just bought one of those Qnix monitors and I don't have enough juice to make it reach its full potential. But your backup rig is even better than mine and I would love to see it. It would be so cool.

3) I've never won that many giveaways although recent events have proved otherwise. Anyways, I've had a REALLY bad week in school. Seems like bad luck has been on my side for a while and I hate it. Man this giveaway would lighten up the mood even if it is far from now.

"A blind man hears the quietest of whispers and a deaf man sees the smallest of details, but a normal man seems to lack the ability to do either." - very funny; funny because it is so completely true.

Hmm. So you handle the math. OK.

It's hard to beat the story the kid tells on the first page about his mother with medical maladies.

Your backup rig is interesting. My daughter could use it. I hope you like that motherboard. I am unhappy with my analogous board, a generation earlier. As a bleeding edge SATA III board it does some kludgy things to get its speed over SATA II. But it's not really a full 6 GB/s. And having to wait for the add-on BIOS to boot is a pain.

The case looks interesting. I have review copies of the Phantom 410 and 820. The Switch would make a nice contrast. I have been keeping older cases to show next to newer cases in side-by side pics. But this giveaway suggests a means to unload them when the time comes.

The monitor -- 3D, 120Hz -- why would you ditch it? Just curious.

To pay you back for your remarkable quote, I will give you this story that hit my email yesterday (it tickled me):

Quote:
The difference in meaning between COMPLETE and FINISHED:

The English dictionary has not been able to adequately explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. However, in a recent linguistic conference held in London, England, and attended by some of the best linguists in the world:

Samsundar Balgobin, a Guyanese, was the clear winner.

His final challenge was this: Some say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. Please explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that is easy to understand.

His answer was:

"When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. But, when you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED.

And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!"

His answer was received with a standing ovation lasting over 5 minutes.

Nice, generous set of prizes. Live long and prosper.
