Knight of Fire and Ice

Alright guys I said early on my last thread that I would do a build log on my NZXT Phantom 630 Case. This is going to be kind of a knight/dragon build using MSI's new gaming range for the Intel motherboard. Parts are not going to be here anytime soon as I am holding out for either Haswell or (If I can wait that long biggrin.gif) Ivy-E. Luckily for me Terrere came along and suggested ChainMail... Which might for all intensive purposes be the death of me. Regardless I've started and thought I would show you the progress so far.
The beginning of the end. The roll of links...

To avoid mental injury I then began the next part of the design cutting out the side panel shield.
Cutting the template.

And now the real deal...

A little memento...

Meanwhile back in the land of chainmail...

That is all I have so far though the mod will continue ever onward.

Day 1 of the reveal:

Day 2 of the reveal:

Day 3 of the reveal:

Day 4 of the reveal:

Alright guys small update for all of you. I did some test painting on a couple pieces of scrap metal I had lying around and decided on the color. For the record it's Rustoleum universal hammered spray paint in silver. Unfortunately The test piece was ruined slightly by a not so usable textured metallic paint. I do however have a picture of the Dark bronze color.

Rustoleum Hammered is some fantastic stuff. Love it, and love all the work you're putting into this. thumb.gif

Haven't posted an update in a bit so I figured I would show you what's been going on with the build so far.
The Phantom being torn apart. from the bottom

Before rivet removal

The Phantom all torn up after a "Rough" day of sanding

All of the parts cleaned up and ready to be primed and painted

My painting rig nothing fancy just a 2x4 with holes cut into it but still.

As always let me know what you think.

This will be amazing.

tip: use sparkle painting to help with metallic-ness

Alright brief update and a new plan. First painting is going wellish I've been busy with work and the rest of my life so painting has been taking a back seat for a bit. I am however about 1/3 of the way done with the painting process however so I thought I'd show you a few of the finished pieces.

In the process of planning my loop where I'm going to put things yada yada. And in that maddness was born the idea for a basement. Now my dad and I aren't exactly masters of metalwork... We are however quite good with wood. biggrin.gif
Plans

approximate dimensions are going to be 245mm(D)x145mm(H)x543mm(W)

It should be able to fit a quad 120mm radiator and the pump which will make me a very happy camper. biggrin.gif
Thoughts and suggestions are always welcomed. thumb.gif

Alright new update, first and foremost I am almost done with painting I only have the plastic pieces left and then I can show you the finished case. Second the pedestal had a slight alteration and became significantly bigger and better as you'll see.
Alright first off I'll go ahead and show you most of the rest of the panels (Side panels are still drying smile.gif )

Like I said I've still got a little bit of a ways to go but I'm over half way there WOOT!!
Now on to the Pièce de résistance The Pedestal. My Dad and I made it out of 3 Planks of Aspen I hope you guys like what you see. (Fyi It is no longer the exact dimensions of the case it is currently meant to appear as a decorative pedestal the likes of which you would see under a piece of display armor)
First I'm giving you desert first then I'll show you a few of the shots while it was under construction.

As always tell me what you guys think Thoughts and suggestions are always welcomed! thumb.gif

That's an interesting concept. Unsure if it'll look like it belongs with that case though. I'd have to see them together.

I know it's not quite the same as a legitimate picture of the case + Pedestal but I do have the sketchup concept art. FYI My Phantom 630 Mock-up (Though to scale) is awful biggrin.gif

Inspiration for going with this style over what was done with the switch 810 pedestals was:
1 Display armor (Since this is a very knightish build it should look rather nice)
2 wood took up too much space for a quad rad and my father and I don't have the tools for a full on metal working project. Now wood on the other hand wink.gif
