It's definitely a sub-80 percent efficient PSU, so I would probably look into a different case to stay on-budget if the PSU quality is a big factor. The Thermaltake unit is 80-plus bronze certified, as is the SG05.

Hi Again,

Still searching for a case..I found this LIAN LI PC-Q03B now my question is what psu's I can use for this? I know it will be a "pico psu" based from searching.

Anyway, if you can post links to which pico psu (good one) that will fit on this case will be good..

thanks,
christian

Well, I was looking forward to help you, but Andy did quite a great job so far !

I would definitively stick with the Gigabyte GA-Z77N-Wifi over the Asrock IMO, better reliability, better support / BIOS updates, etc.

Concerning the RAM, these kits are quite good values : KIT#1 / KIT#2. The good brands would be Kingston / Corsair / GSkill, you would be looking at 8 or 16GB running at 1600Mhz, I personnally work with Photoshop as well, and I have currently 12 GB of RAM, I did an extensive surveillance recently, and never have I ever used more than 7 GB or RAM while working on Photoshop / Illustrator & Dreamweaver in the same time (CS6). If your budget gets tighter, start with a single 8GB stick and get a second one if you truly see you need more.

Concerning the PSU, this is quite a good one, especially for the price !

Finally, concerning the case, Lian Li ITX/mATX case are indeed great, a bit heavier than others IMO, but except that..

Hope I helped !

Thanks stnz,

Yes! Andy did help me a lot and I owe him a big thanks. Though haven't really purchased anything yet cuz I'm waiting for a colleague of mine, He's going back to uk, I might just ask him a favour in buying me the motherboard there (GA-Z77N-wifi).

I am still confused about pico psu's..so that link is the same one I am looking at but where's the part where's the adapter? do I need to purchased a separate one? And what model/brand should I get, maybe a link also?

I might follow your advise on getting an 8gb first and follow it up if I really needed one.

Do you think Lian li is heavy but heavy the same as an mini atx/atx casings?

Appreciate the replies guys..

It's me again...

I am wrong saying that the case that I am eyeing for is using a pico psu. I went in the Lian-Li's site and checked the model and it uses a "micro-atx psu" so I think thats alright? I mean there will be a lot of choices regarding a micro atx psu? if so, can you guys recommend one?

Also, will this be a good one as well? http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=600&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=64

that case has a "SFX PSU / OPTPUT : 300W / Efficiency : 80% (80-PLUS) Included" so is this a much better case and does the psu good too?

Sorry for the questions..

Christian,

The PC-Q02 looks to be pretty great, and the SFX PSU is very good. I will say, that if you're planning on upgrading past having only integrated graphics (either onboard the Intel Ivy Bridge or the AMD APU), then the Q02 probably won't be suitable. The PC-Q03 however, is basically the same design, but slightly expanded to allow up to a 180mm single-slot GPU like a Radeon 7750 or certain 7770's. You'd also be able to make use of a standard ATX PSU, but only up to 160MM, so something like a Silverstone Strider (140mm) or the Silverstone SFX PSU would still probably be a good choice.

Again, as I'm sure everyone else will probably say, it's all about function: if you are going to only be doing compute-heavy but not GPU-heavy workloads, the smaller cases with the SFX PSU and without support for a GPU would probably be okay. If you're ever going to upgrade, you might want to have just a slightly larger ITX case in order to have room.

And I definitely agree with you Andy ! Concerning the pico PSU, it seemed weird that it would be this and not a micro ATX/ATX PSU. Also regarding what you will do, a GPU could come quite handy at a point or another, I would as well opt for the Q03 over the Q02

Hi Andy, If I get the silverstone SFX 450 watts non-modular and I plan on adding a graphics card. what NVIDIA graphic card do you think will fit on pc-q03 case? I would prefer a DDR5 one?

also, will the 450watts enough if i put an i7 3770k + this graphic card that you will recommend?

Thanks,]
Christian
