Did I goof up with this PSU to run 7970?

Hello everyone !

First time builder here, so take it easy on me:D
My GPU is 7970 Dual-X (non OC), and it has two 8pin connectors, I also got a SeaSonic S12II 620w, but turns out it has only 1 x 6-Pin and 1 x 6+2-Pin PCI-connectors.
Unfortunately at the time I was completely unaware about PCI-E connectors, all I knew was that the PSU was recommended as a decent budget PSU for my build.

Here is the rest of my system:
CPU: i5 3470
Mobo: GA-B75-D3H
RAM: G.SKILL Ares 2 x 4GB 1600 - these things are biuriful in real life!
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
GPU: 7970 3GB Dual-X (non OC, both bios is 925 / 1375)
Case: CM 690 II Advanced (with USB 3)
PSU: SeaSonic S12II-620
CPU Fan: some poverty Zalman 7000V cooler

The GPU came with 2 adapters, something like this
I don't think I can return the PSU and get a better one because I've already had it for 2 weeks and it's been in use. Return policies are way more strict over here!

So what am I to do? As far as I researched for the last few hours I've read so many conflicting answers. Do you think I'll be fine just running it with 8 + 6 pins? (not gonna OC the GPU above GHz clocks).

Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance:)

the video card should have came with molex to 8 pin connectors which you can use if you don't got the right connector. smile.gif

Just use the Molex to 8 pin connector(s), it'll be fine.

Thanks for the reply. That's right bro, it came with two of these x2 male molex to 8pin adapter. The thing is from what I've read in the last few hours is it's not very recommended to use molex adapters, which I don't know how much truth there is to it.
What I heard was recommended the most was 2x 6pin to 8pin adapter, which I do not a spare 6pin so I cannot use that one lol.

How bad would it be to just run the card with 8 + 6 pins since most reference PCB 7970 come with 8 + 6?
Thanks again

Single rail psu, so it's easy to use a molex to pci-E 8pin adapter if your card came with one.

I got x2 adapters like this with the bundle:
http://www.overclock.net/content/type/61/id/1035490/width/500/height/1000/flags/LL

Would I be safe running this adapter or is there a better adapter?
you'll get the same results running with the adapters you have now if you used others, you'll be fine using what was supplied with the video card. smile.gif

this is the reason why video card manufactures/partners give these adapters, so that people who have insufficient connections can use them and not be bummed out redface.gif

Haha, alright cheers guys!

So much for case aesthetics with these adapters:D

Another question, my PSU has 2 cables with molex, should I connect each molex from the adapter to a different cable from the PSU?
Here is what I mean, two cables with 3 molex on each one coming out from the PSU, do I need to use a different cable for each one or I can use two molex from the same cable?

And one last question, since you said it wouldn't really matter which adapter I use, could I buy a 6pin to 8pin adapter? That would look much better in the case lol
An adapter like this: https://shop.pcpower.com/images/products/b/PCIE-6-8_3853.jpg

Thanks a lot guys, your advice is very appreciated:thumb:
