First build (1600$) - Done ! Buildlog on its way ! - Page 30

Yeah, the 780 beating the Titan is ridiculous. If it does happen in any games, it's because the devs forgot about the Titan but wanted to hype the 780 release and optimize for it but not for the Titan.
I'd just keep with your 670 SC+. You could always see what happens in the next few months, though.

Also, I don't think the Sabertooth is better all around. The Mpower has a third PCIe x16, external PCIe power, a better color scheme (yes, the Sabertooth's armor is nice, but the slots/heatsink are gross colors) better QC, and the RAM that comes with it is fine. There's nothing wrong with Crucial. Yes, the Sabertooth has some advantages.

Yeah, if the 780 beats the Titan it's only due to drivers per games, once they're both well fixed the Titan will kill the 780 in any game, they would not have a 250$ price difference for nothing, the 6GB of VRAM over the 3 of the 780 is quite a difference as well, strange they went the ATI route vram wise though. I think I'll keep my 670SC+ as well, and watch deals on the 680s.

Ouch ! Did not notice there were only two PCI on the Sabertooth ! Since I'm planning on going SLI and adding a soundcard later on, it could kill it for me :/, the color doesn't really matter since they're mostly hidden once the build completed. Noticed also that the Sabertooth is missing the PS2 port (which I would use for a mechanical keyboard).. What would be the good advantages of the Sabertooth except the Asus quality and the lower RMA rate ?

Actually, there are three x16, my mistake. But the config is worse; if you use all three it's x8 x8 x4, if you use all three on the Mpower it's x16 x8 x4 (x16 versus x8 doesn't make much difference, but when at low bandwidth like x4, the PCIe 3 vs 2 bus makes a difference I would think). Both boards have several spare x1s though... Is the soundcard you're gonna use more than x1?
As for the Sabertooth's advantages, the only on the surface thing I notice is the extra SATA 3 and the extra fan headers over the Mpower. I'm sure Asus adds a ton of features that I'm too lazy to read about, lol.

Forgot to mention the two boards have the same internal USB connectors, but the Mpower has more rear external USB 3.

I'm planning on getting a STX later on, if I'm not wrong it should fit on both even with a dual GPU setup. The difference would be within te bios, but both seems to be good honestly, I did some intensive search to check the difference and they are not quite big a deal, the lack of ps2 port on the sabertooth really bothers me though.. I think I'll stick with the MSI one for now, and if the sabertooth is at a truly low price later on I might grab it over the mpower simply because I was always satisfied with Asus products quality. Performance per price the mpower is more interesting though.

Just an FYI - MSI RMA % is based on their lower end cards. The Mpower being one of their flag ships as I mentioned in my first post about it, it has the best quality control testing as I mentioned before 24 hours burn in test with prime 95 using an overclocked i7. The sabertooth does not provide anything near that and ASUS had one of the worst RMA % last year over nearly anyone else I think including MSI. The Mpower has more features and has that testing that the sabertooth doesn't get put through for less. The looks however go to the sabertooth in my book but thats about it.

Hope that helps. tongue.gif

And btw the 780 is on a single monitor setup is approximately %3-%5 difference in performance comparing to the Titan especially in 1080p.

Google can provide far more.

Well thanks for the info Apropo !

I'm heading to the mpower, I had chosen well from the start I think, and the look of the sabertooth is attracting maybe but the mpower can look just as nice if not better with some little modifications smile.gif

Still a big nono for the 780 unless its price becomes reasonable some day

Wow the 770 is cheap isn't overpriced.
There's already a 4GB model on Newegg and it's still $100 cheaper than most 4GB 680s. Still confused as to why there are no stock cooler models, even on the 3rd party manufacturers's websites, though.

Wow the 770 is cheap isn't overpriced.
There's already a 4GB model on Newegg and it's still $100 cheaper than most 4GB 680s. Still confused as to why there are no stock cooler models, even on the 3rd party manufacturers's websites, though.
EVGA and PNY are doing reference coolers, just with a stylized shroud. I think EVGA's shroud looks really nice. The Nvidia one was way too flashy.

Yeah, didn't look at their sites. I did see one of the PNY ones on Newegg, but they're all not Nvidia's which is still sorta weird.

I do like EVGA's new styled one a lot.

All this beautiful hardware makes me wish I had more rich friends who didn't feel like learning about building computers themselves.

Ohhh my god, I'm indeed going for a 770 then, read some reviews, the one at anandtech is well made btw,
Now the thing is which one to buy, I'm going to wait a bit for prices drops as I know they're coming for sure.
Which one would you chose ?

I think that if I wait a bit I could catch a 770 4GB for around 400$, what do you guys think ?

Thank you a lot for the info Sethris !

Also, a strange question, this is the PSU I'm planning on getting, a good deal and free shipping (compared to my original AX750 that is now twenty bucks more).

The question : is there any downside to have the fan facing up ? I've always done it face down and from what I know it is better to put the warm air of the PSU outside the case rather than bring it back inside to allow for better airflow, etc. But ! The side of this PSU that is usually showing is this one while I would like for it to be this one (for my black & white sheme you know), I think what's on the side is a simple sticker but I think it would void the warranty if I were to remove it sadly.
