[Verge] EA takes helm from LucasArts, will exclusively develop future 'Star Wars' games - Page 23

The Force is strong in EA, unfortunately they are Sith, not Jedi.

Just like the the 1, 2, and 3 Episodes EA has slowly created a Galactic Empire, and will now rule over the peons under it's control.

Where is Luke?!

While I do share a distaste of EA...Their recent CEO swap was a game-changer.

Quite frankly, with the changes already made to Sim City since the swap, I'd wait to pass judgement until we see something new, worth judging...

Just my 2c.

LOL?

No it isn't, everything will be business as usual under the new CEO. The ONLY time a CEO can really effect any kind of change in a company is when it isn't making money.
EA is doing just fine with all the idiots buying their games while complaining about the companies policies. The CEO change is just a different figurehead for everyone to point fingers at and vent.

Finally someone who isn't just flaming. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

It is not flaming if the claim is legitimate. EA is a piss poor company as far knowledgeable gamers are concerned. Their history is littered with promising studios they have ruined with their constant putting of greed over quality of goods and how to treat consumers as a whole.

I have knowledge that I won't put on OCN but, there have already been some major changes internally.

The new CEO understands your thoughts and opinions + actually shares the vast majority of them.

This figurehead is making a difference and I will wait to pass judgement until I see their next release.

An example of the change is already reflected in Sim City from the change --> Now.

He was also PIVOTAL in the securing of Star Wars because, believe it or not, Disney is well aware of what was going on with EA, previously...

The level of resistance he will meet in upper to mid management will kill any initiatives he really starts. It will be all CYA internal politics below the executive level as everyone makes sure they aren't to blame. It is the inertia of these companies which are only put together to make money, whose internal ethics dictate financial gain over customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. This guy could be EA's messiah, and his chances of succeeding in changing the company to actually caring about customers, is somewhere in the vicinity of his chances of walking on water unassisted.

The reason so many people have been flaming here is we recognize the consumer corporation that EA is, we know they do nothing but acquire, consume, dispose and acquire again. EA is seriously the Necromongers of the game industry. Even if this guy wants to make the best games in the world and satisfy every potential customers demand, he doesn't answer to us, he answers to his investors who demand money, nothing else. I've already seen it enough times in other industries, no matter how charismatic or well intentioned a CEO is, he can not fundamentally change the direction or goal of a corporation.
EDIT 1:
As far as I know with Sim City, it is still always on DRM, and the model for the game is fundamentally built in and requires you to connect to their servers to make any progress in "cities" since each plot you have is really more like a borough, or township or block, than a real city. Granted, its a small improvement from not even being able to play at launch, but there is fundamental flaws to the game design that no level of changing can fix.

Of course, they could always offer a Volt station to compete with the Leaf station.

Congrats, he was able to recognize the next big IP for the chopping block, getting the rights to making star wars games shows nothing to his credibility, and everything to his business sense.

EDIT 2:
Now that I'm partly on the subject, I would be really curious what the talent roster at DICE and all the other current EA studios looks like compared to when EA took over. I see Ubisoft-esk levels of draconian management written all over EA's oversight. Any creative developer / artist would squirm and be miserable under those conditions.

I will believe it when I see it. I have since long ago already passed judgement on EA and nothing from the publisher has ever suggested to me that it is capable of turning over a new leaf. Talk is cheap and EA has a long, long road ahead of them to earn back any amount of trust from the gamers.
