New built in desk. Still in planning stages.

Updating thread in hopes of feedback, also providing a sketchup render instead of the sad drawing I took a picture of with my phone. Drawers on left are 2 junk drawers and 1 file size drawer. Rest is just a flat top with a simple leg on the end. Will be supported by stringer and other means over the length. Any ideas on what I should change. Small pedestal below is where tower will sit. All wiring will be suspended up out of view for the most part. Both monitors will be wall mounted with channels covering the cables painted same as my walls.

Top in drawing is with black formica... currently figuring 3/4" but may double it up if need to for strength to keep from bowing.

Think about where light comes from before you decide where to put it! Pain in the butt if there is a window behind you. Also a set of electrical sockets above the desk line will always be a benefit. thumb.gif

Is that little box for your tower on the right? As I have done the same thing and put castors on it so I can move it back and forth easily and to raise it from the carpet, improving dust levels thumb.gif

The window in my room is on the north wall, right side of desk but the edge of the window is about 6" away from the desk end itself. Monitors and such will be on the 6' wall so glare won't be a problem. Using that layout with a ghetto desk setup right now and have zero glare problems. As for the tower thing, I just want it out of the way. I already take my computer out every 2 months or so and blast it with a compressor. Right now it's 2 ft off the ground and is still a dust magnet. Southern Arizona fails at dust. Saying what you did though I won't have that part built into the wall, will maybe make it a few inches taller and just have a little platform I can set and move when I need to. I plan on recarpeting the room as well. I didn't even consider electrical outlets but the other side of my wall is open so I can and definitely will do it, just gotta push some insulation out of the way and pop a couple holes.

I have no materials in mind yet. I know I want solid finished wood of some kind for the legs and cabinet. I have no idea how nor the tools to do this myself so will likely hire someone, know plenty of people in the finish cabinetry department as I worked construction for years. Will ask them the best materials for that. The surface I want formica though for a smooth writing surface and easy to clean.

I'm still learning sketchup, the above was made with a fair amount of swearing and redoing things many times before I figured it out. Not in the drawing but intended is a few of those cable holes + gromets into the desktop for cables to drop right through for management on the bottom. That will likely be done with 2" or so 2 hole pipe straps, not sure yet.

Will be upgrading sig big time as well but that is for another thread at another time...

That was my original plan but due to the size difference... one being 24" deep the other 18" deep I couldn't get a proper joint where they would meet. That and I didn't know where to buy a cabinet with drawer's that wasn't a bathroom or kitchen cabinet and being the height I need. Custom is the way to go I think, havn't been able to find anything pre-made that I could use to do this.

Latest updates to plan, decided not to bother with the corner part. I can't figure what I'll use it for.

Put handpad, keyboard, mouse and screens in there. Undecided on going for all 3 or just the center and right side. White thing is electric outlet as suggested above. Screens would be existing 32" in sig + 2 24" 1080p for the real estate.
