Best Option for replacing a bad Dimm

Thread Starter
I had 6gb (3x2gb) of corsair XMS3 Ram and loved it. Recently I found that one of the sticks went bad after errors for weeks etc. Memtest was finding issues and I took one out at a time and finally located the bad stick.

So now I want to replace the 2gb stick but can't get an individual one on newegg. I'm sure I could find one on other sites but I have a newegg order in the works anyways so I wanted to just add something to it.

So what is my best option? would adding a 4gb XMS3 stick work? Or should I get the 2x2gb so they are all the same size and then have 8gb total? I've heard that it won't run in triple channel anymore tho if I have 8gb, is this true? what are my other options? 2x4gb and go to 12gb total?

Thanks!

if it's anything like dual channel ram, they all need to be the same.
have you tried the other sticks in that slot to confirm that it is the ram, and not the slot?
