[VC] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770\780 Pictured (780 Features GK110-300 GPU?) - Page 92

7970GE had a LOT of issues though. much more than the GTX680s. one easy example of this was to get on Newegg and read all the reviews from various cards. now i understand that you have to take those reviews with a grain of salt most of the time. but even with that said, there were a LOT of unhappy campers with the 7970GE. i saw it myself since i'm a distributor. i'm not sure if ATi uses cheaper components when they manufacture their cards. or if there was simply a design problem. but i know that heat, whine, and complete card failures were very common.

feel free to defend it and call me a liar if you want. but i saw the returns and heard the complaints from a reseller / distributor standpoint.

Some Chinese site saying this about the 780:
4000 yuan would be almost exactly $650

That's exactly half the price of the TITAN in China, so it's more like $500, and that's why I didn't make a post about, most of the comments on Chinese forums says it's bs.

1st: AMD, not ATi
2nd: It's very common that the components (an example: VRMs) on the PCB is replaced by the distributing companies (MSI/Club3D/ASUS, etc.), as well is the cooling system. Blaming AMD for the quality of the cards, that the distributing companies redesign, is BS..

Makes sense looking at their tables actually, I didn't bother with checking titan and 680 prices before...

im still debating whether titan is a good buy or not . might as well play the waiting game and see how capable the 780 performs.

I'm not saying they aren't great cards, they truely are. It's just the usually timeline for each generations is almost doubling now. We should already be on 700/8000 series by now if they followed the usual schedule, and we'd be debating rumors on 800/9000 series instead. My point was I'm disappointed with the stagnation and what seems to be an intentional delay of schedule. I'm sure sales justify it. But you know, we all wanna see progress. Consoles milking their current gens really puts PC gaming, and even hardware, in a slump. Sad we gotta rely on consoles to help us out. Sure its not the only reason, but its a big reason.

Oh well, at this point I want both sides to just go nuts. Whoever puts out the best performance per watt, per dollar gets my buy at this point. I'm just gonna go big with a single GPU and stop the constant mid range upgrading for a few years...

And they are banking off of it's brand name and position in the market place big time. You can see this with the coolers.

I think we would be more likely to see the GTX 790 come out as a single GK110 GPU to bridge the gap between GTX Titan and GTX 780 than a cut down GTX Titan with GTX Titan branding to fill the gap.
As if they would go back to the 2XX series based names.
790 would be a dual gpu solution not a single.

Hopefully they have an improved version of GPU Boost 2.0 too and the monitor overclocking of the GTX Titan because that will really entice more peoples interest in them. For a novice user GPU Boost 2.0 is god like.
Yeah let them put in gpu boost 2.0 crap (it depends whether they make it act as they told us it would this time) and btw monitor overclocking was already around since 190 range drivers...

Considering technology moves towards power consumption, I wouldn't expect much from Maxwell/8000 Series.
If the 780 is exactly half the price of the TITAN, at $500 its a great buy.
