New System.....Opinions? Advice?

Well here's my future build. Will be building her some time next year, once I get my income tax return ( looking @ 1200 - 1500 ) and then saving up 2 month's worth of pay...So there's 3000.....

With a budget of 4200-4500....I want a KILLER system. Quad core'd be nice... but Im Canadian... so they're expensive here.

Here's what I drew up.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.40GHZ
EVGA Nforce 680I SLI LGA775 Conroe ATX
G.SKILL F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX PC2-8000 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-1000
Thermaltake CL-P0114 Big Typhoon
4 x Seagate Barracuda 250GB 7200.10 8MB 8.5MS SATA2 in RAID ???????
2 x Liteon SHM-165H6S DVD+RW 16X8X16 DVD-RW 16X6X16 Lightscribe
2 x Acer AL1916W Asd 19IN Widescreen LCD Monitor 1440X900 700:1 5MS
Razer Copperhead Tempest Blue 2000DPI 7 Button Optical Mouse
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
OCZ GameXStream 850W ATX12V 24PIN SLI Ready Active PFC ATX Power Supply 120MM Fans
Creative Sound Blaster X-FI FATAL1TY FPS 24BIT Sound Card W/ Front Access Panel & Remote Control
2 x EVGA E-GEFORCE 8800 Gts in SLi

TOTAL PRICE WITH TAXES / SHIPPING = $4,161.99 CAD

As for a case...I have NO idea. I want something sexy, sleek, and BIG! Must have a BIG window =)

Something I can use Air cooling on, but have the possibility of Liquid down the road. Will be extreme air mind you. High RPM fans are already noted, and they're whisper quiet.

Tips? Suggestions? Better deals?

Thank you in advance

Get a large single monitor. You don't want that kind of low res with SLI. Plus, SLI and multiple monitors is a pain!

I'll be gathering up an alternative rig

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 $364.97
MoBo: ASUS P5N32-E SLI Nforce 680I SLI LGA775 $280.80
RAM: Team Xtreem PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-10 $352.51
CPU Cooling: Scythe Infinity 5 Heatpipe $51.66

DVD: 2 x Liteon DVD+RW 18X8X16 DVD-RW $73.00
Monitor: Acer AL2416WD 24IN Wide Screen Lcd $786.45
Mouse: Razer Copperhead Tempest Blue 2000DPI 7 Button $77.76
Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard $65.89
PSU: Silverstone Zeus ST85ZF 850W ATX12V 20/24PIN $305.64

Video: Evga E-GEFORCE 8800 Gtx 575MHZ 768MB 1.8GHZ GDDR3 $699.99
Case: Thermaltake Armor VA8003SWA Silver ATX W/ Window And 25CM Fan $214.23

Total: $3,858.28 + FREE shipping + tax (directcanada is in BC...)

I think with that budget you should definately go with 24" (1920x1200 resolution). I opted for a single 8800GTX instead of SLI 8800GTSs. Easy to add a second one when price drops, and for now more than enough performance (I think a single GTX does not lag that far behind SLI GTSs).

If this is too much $$, drop two of the hard drives.

Yes im with Chozart on this Sli and dual monitors is basically a no no. Also why two 8800GTS its better to get one GTX save some money and get a cheaper PSU because your CPU will just bottleneck both GPU's. If you go with one GTX you can also get better overclocking motherboards like the P5B-Deluxe or P5W64 WS Pro which can go further than the 680i due to the SATA problems the 680i is currently having. Yes you could upgrade to SLi when the prices drop but that doesnt make sense because lower power consumption graphics cards will be out and they will also be faster than the last generation cards. Look at G70->G71 the architecture didnt change much but the ex-flagship 7800GTX was getting beat by the midrange 7900GT.

Also i love my widscreen the Dell 2407WFP you should take a look at it.

Since this is a 'future' buy, I did go for the 680i. By the time he has the money, the landscape will have changed... ATI R00 might be out, and he might be able to afford a pair of 8800GTX's and Quad Core by then.

But, do not get the eVGA board.. get the ASUS instead. The eVGA is based on the reference board with all flaws connected to it (eats RAM, fries SATA ports.. that sort of things)

hmmmm....valid points. I have no idea SLi and dualies was a nono I was just gonna drop 50$ and pick up another 17'' CRT heh

THANK YOU

So ya,....One GTX sounds good. I dont mind that at all. I do think I'll go SLi with them EVENTUALLY.....but not for a while. I want a LARGE LCD first Thinkin a westy. I like the one guy's review.

Anyhoo....I do want atleast 1 TB of hard drive space. I have so many movies backed up ( to avoind scratching the originals....Im a stickler for perfection) and music.

So yes.... thiat build looks good...aside from ONE thing.... a remote. Would it be in my best interest to get a tv tuner card with a remote..... or just a logitech Harmony, and an IR dongle?

I do a lot of multi media with my PC already... and this'll be ym PC for College ( Graphic Design ) and gaming on the side...

Ah yes, and Chozart....I doubt I'll be able to afford twin GTX's..... They're not gonna drop too drastically in price by the time income taxes are out

So HA! Might opt for on R600 providing it's out though..... be nice to try ATi.... IF it's DX10 ready. I wanna play Crysis

If yuo want a good, large monitor, get a real monitor! And not an HDTV (which I think the Westy is you're referring to). A real monitor is much better in image quality for gaming and computing, and has a good resolution also, probably better than an HDTV in the same price range.
