having said that, who doesn't sleep their PC ? i generally do because of my RAM drive, its 0.5w sleep consumption is no problem for me
on a notebook it's impressive , plus booting is less than 40 seconds sounds way too fast
Win 8 boots fast, particularly off an SSD. If it wasn't for POST on my desktop it would be below 10 I think. My surface pro boots in <10 easy.

But I use sleep on my desktop anyway, so boot times rarely matter.

You really think I would enjoy pinning 30 or so programs to my task bar to avoid the start screen? Seriously, are you comparing a tablet to a PC? YES the touch interface works. I use a PC NO TOUCH SCREEN NO BUENO for windows 8.

What I'm saying is this. I have a bunch of apps I use irregularly. I also watch a lot of tv shows on my pc. I don't want to stop watching a show just to open up a little monitor app, or check on other programs to mess around with while I'm watching my shows, just because Microsoft decided an in your face, full screen, distraction of a start screen was a good idea.

It's GARBAGE on a computer. On a tablet, it's FINE it's a freaking tablet. It's not meant to multi task to the level that PC's do.

Sounds like you need a second monitor. thumb.gif

sounds like poor ui design if you need a second monitor to get the same functionality

So what you're really saying is you refuse to take on functionality 3rd party programs give you.
Win7 has never had dual screen native support for backgrounds, taskbars etc. Therefore, as that is a function I need, I got UltraMon. Disregarding 3rd party fixes in windows is dumb, as that is almost the whole point of windows: open source and modifiable beyond anything Microsoft will ever do for you.

Windows 8 is by far the most light weight and optimized OS I've ever used. I use it on my touch screen ultrabook and ironically I use the track pad more than the screen. I find that windows 8 splits into 2 worlds for me: Work and Play. With work I used office and photoshop which both require me to use the desktop. But with Play, I barely leave the start menu as I jump from app to app. Mostly IE 10 and the music app. The only time I use the desktop in play is when I want to play Dota 2 biggrin.gif.

I find that having a big multi-touch track pad is just as good as a touch screen as you can comfortably take full advantage of the gestures.

I have a Dull Inspiron 17R and the trackpad on it does not play that well with 8 - but it works .

QFT right here. That's exactly how I use Win8 on my desktop as well. And I'm also with you on the touchscreen Ultrabook. I absolutely love mine, though I do enjoy the touch screen...
