How I'm cooling my 8800gtx

Thread Starter
Ok since there are no aftermarket non-water coolers yet for the 8800 gtx, I was just going to show how I lowered my temps from 58 idle to 50, not a big drop but only using airflow and fans layin around, its significant....

First I took my old funnel that came with my case as a CPU air funnel, and I cut it to attack to my case while sliding over the 8800gtx card, also cutting a hole in my plastic side panel to allow flow, it doesnt look pretty but who the hell cares when you just paid $650 for a GPU card:

Then I took an extra 90mm fan, and removed the bottom 4 PCI slot covers below the VGA and set the fan up to exaust all the hot air that WASNT getting exausted with the stock cooler on the VGA card *piece of crap was like a heater inside my PC, and it was causing my CPU temp to go up 6c in idle*

This immediately dropped 8c from my VGA temps, and reduced my CPU temps back to pre-8800 temps lol, hope this helps anyone who is looking to cool their new 8800GTX

And yes the hole looks like crap, I just drilled a big circle ahaha because I don't have a good saw or other method of cutting plastic, anyone have any suggestions on cutting plexi glass? I can buy a big enough sheet for 6 bucks, but I don't want to waste it or have to buy a freaking 100 dollar tool just to cut 1 piece of plexi glass....

Well as long as it's functional I'd say it's great, personally I never really look at my case when I'm gaming

Have you overclocked it yet?

you can score it back and forth (both sides too) if you are just cutting straight lines, not sure about curves though..

I havn't overclocked the 8800 yet, nor the CPU, don't really need to atm, my old 7950 was OC'd like a mofo, but this new one runs everything flawlessly, so not yet.

I bout a hole saw kit 80mm 92mm and a 120mm as long as you spin the bit backwards first you will get a nice clean whole don't use a lot of speed either once the whole is cut you can use some C-Channel stripping to clean it up, you can get it at any Autozone or I get mine from here :http://www.frozencpu.com/products/52...tl=g42c217s338
but it will make a nice hole and look very good when completed.

I have also done many 120mm wholes as well not as easy but it can be done with lil attention to detail and taking your time.. Cwell1337 has seen the wholes I have done ..

I guess, but it wasn't this bad before with my 7950, that one was idling around 41, lol, when I poped in the 8800 it just shot all my temps up.
