Questions about 2400 speed ram - Page 2

^ absolutely correct. With a kit that is rated for DDR3-2133, and supported motherboard and CPU, you can enable XMP Profile in BIOS/EFI then everything will be ready to go. If you purchase DDR3-1600, XMP Profile enabled will only set it for DDR3-1600, then it is up to the user to overclock DDR3-1866+. Result is not guaranteed, it depends on CPU, user OC ability, and memory overclocking margin.

Cheers

Try to find some Samsung wonder ram they are cheaper and overclock to 2133/2400 with tight timings. Dominators are just way to expensive and will perform the same as the samsungs (if same speed/timings)
Save a few $$ for the 3930k thumb.gif

It currently isn't listed on Newegg for whatever reason, I see it on and off the site quite frequently so it's all about luck on there. Here is a Amazon link but the $108 price is comical at best, I got mine for $30 plus free S&H on Newegg.

If you are set on 2400, just buy one of the G.Skill 2400 kits. The Trident X kit I got are using Samsung modules, versus overpriced Corsair stuff.

Bottom of line is if you get a good kit (or 2 since you are going 2011 route) at a good price go for it if not those 2400 kits are 80€/90€ or more each the performance gain over 1600 is not that great only in benchmarks.

If you're going for the G.Skill Trident X, I really suggest getting the 2400 9-11-11 kit and not the 2400 10-12-12 kit, as the former uses very good Samsung IC's and double-sided DIMM's, while the latter is a "lottery" as to what you'll get...
