[kotaku] Players Claim Diablo III's Economy Is In Meltdown - Page 3

It was my GOTY for last year. I still think it's a blast. It's fun to just run through and blow demons up. The combat is super smooth and with four people, it's a lot of fun. I don't use the AH so I just play for drops and gold. It's improved massively over launch and I hope they continue with the good work. Still much work to be done, though. I just think the AH is TOO easy to access. Whereas before, you had to go to eBay for Diablo II items, the AH is now an integral part of the game. I think Diablo III's economy was not going to work with the AH. It should be about player interaction and finding players with the loot you want to TRADE for. Buying whatever you want on a whim is, I think, a severe detriment to the overall replay value.

Of course, more/better dungeon randomization would be the best thing. I think that's the biggest weakness of the game. It most parts, it just feels too linear.

the itemization is so bad, i almost never get an item that is useful even in inferno mp0, to any class. but i like repetitive dungeon crawlers and the combat is fun, so i still like it

I must say I have been caught up when I first tried it. It was very entertaining, but after I ended twice, the passion for it was just... gone. You change the characters, different abilities, yeah, but the story is always the same, only getting a bit harder.
I got bored eventually... Not certainly what you would expect from such a long development, and the RMAH was just a terrible mistake. It all comes down to money, always.

Taking out the game play in general being way too garbagely linear, the heroes all being the same boring builds, and the story *very* underwhelming, all the AH did was kill the game quicker. Why is anyone still playing d2? Because you can still hunt for that ONE item. There is that ONE best item that can still roll. You can use d2jsp if you'd like, but since there were never any official channels, only the hardcore dedicated players ever used such services to acquire the items they wanted. A lot of people still play it to trade items. When you incorporate the ability to get everything you want, immediately, you lose the will to strive for anything.

It's the same concept as cheating in a game, really, when you think about it: When someone cheats to get ahead, they do and then...ok, so now what? They eventually get bored and move on to something else - or start playing legit again. Diablo 3 became boring because of instant gratification for the players and piggy Mcgreedersons over at blizzard wanting to grab all that 'profit' from the likes of d2jsp. They knew what they were doing when they announced a RMAH and they knew it would kill the game, but they refused to look down from atop their mountain of gold.
