Prediction: Between Oct - Dec. there will be a refresh on 20nm, GCN 2.0, 20nm will come next year.

We haven't had any news of any chips taping out on 20nm from either camp. NVIDIA is just barely getting their refresh out now.
Indeed it is only a spark of hope wink.gif

Nvidia's refresh isn't really a refresh as they didn't improve the efficiency or performance of any of their chips it is a rebrand doesn't make the gtx780 less attractive.

well we'll have to find out about this actually when we see the voltages, power requirements, and OC'ability.  Last rumor I heard had the 770's memory at 7ghz.  Whether or not that's fake....I don't know.  But you won't be seeing too many 680's hitting memory speeds like that.

yeah except if they dont say a word, there will be noone to buy 8970 if everyone goes into near titan power 780. i mean come on, sales of 7970 wont help them since noone would buy 7970 if 780 outperforms it by 20+%?

i second that

except it isnt. if in a month since release of 780 there is no official word from amd, we can assume their refresh is not gonna be competitive with 780, i mean comeon it surely wont be 20nm (i would want it, but seems it wont) and if its 28nm then how much will 8970 consume? 300-350watt?

Since when real enthusiast care for power consumption?
Nvidia then AMD lock their voltages and everybody is crying all over the place lol..

Im not against lower power consumption but i dont want them locking it either.. Give the user the choice and dont do a nvidia...

How can we assume that? Unless AMD is going to release a new generation of cards whose flagship is less than 20% faster than the 7970Ghz/8970, they'll remain competitive.

Also, while 20nm does seem a bit unlikely, it does help the proverbial pieces fall into place, such as why the 8xxx series are pretty much all rebrands. Either way, I suspect that Volcanic Islands will have some major advancement, which is why they seem to have dedicated just about everything they have to it.

well sry but what shall prevent people wanting to spring top dollar buying near titan 780 for next 3 months? if amd says ok 20nm is coming people will wait, but if they dont, they loose sales. its as simple as that

i just saw a review where they made a raid of 2 120gb and got sequential write 950+MB, i guess that could be called overclocking SSD xD
anyway if nvidia has 250w card and amd 350w then all those trifire quadfire people will rather choose 384bit 780s cause we are talking about 300w more consumption and heat

and this is coming from lifelong ati person, who bought 660 only cause he already had FC3 smile.gif

And thank to these logics about overclocking an SSD overclocking a processor is the same as having 2 processors or overclocking a gpu is the same as sli/cf'ing a gpu.
You see what I'm getting at?
Now back to the question you could OC a SSD but there is no need as it wouldn't yield better performance you could OC the controller chip but that doesn't make it faster as it was already balanced.
