Agreed, needs a new thread.

The Hainan chip and Curacao chips were rumoured to be of the same specs as released here. the only difference is HD 8870 was Hainan XT and HD 8850 was Hainan Pro. Also it does not make sense to use Hainan chip for HD 8950. the Curacao chip is a much larger chip (420 sq mm) and needs a salvage part for yields.

http://videocardz.com/34981/amd-radeon-hd-8870-and-hd-8850-specifiation-leaked
http://videocardz.com/39041/meet-aruba-curacao-hainan-and-bonaire-the-codenames-radeon-hd-8000-series

HD 8970 - 2304 sp, 3 geometry engines, 8 ACE 2.0, 48 ROP, 6 GB GDDR5, 384 bit memory (1100 / 7000) for USD 600.
HD 8950 - 2048 sp, 3 geometry engines, 8 ACE 2.0, 48 ROP, 3 GB GDDR5, 384 bit memory (1000 / 6000) for USD 400 - 450.
HD 8870 - 1792 sp, 2 geometry engines, 8 ACE 2.0, 32 ROP, 2 GB GDDR5, 256 bit memory (1200 / 7000) for USD 300
HD 8850 - 1536 sp, 2 geometry engines, 8 ACE 2.0, 32 ROP, 2 GB GDDR5, 256 bit memory (1100 / 6000) for USD 230
HD 8830 - 1280 sp, 2 geometry engines, 8 ACE 2.0, 32 ROP, 2 GB GDDR5, 256 bit memory (1000 / 6000) for USD 200

also the 8 ACE 2.0 is identical to what the PS4 uses. This lineup would take the fight to Nvidia. God knows we need competition. If AMD can get this lineup released by July August it would be great.

Also, the HD 8950 should be able to CrossFire with the HD 8970 so they need the same CHIP. No doubt.

Was literally typing the same thing on another forum. This would give us an all out price war between the 780, Titan, and the 8970. Not to mention the 8970 will be bundled with BF4 sooner or later. Really tired of AMD holding all the cards to their chest. These rumors get me excited then are debunked... i want some clarification poke.gif

that won't be possible. they are different architecturally. 3 geometry engines, 8 ACE 2.0, 48 ROP. there is no way a HD 8950 can be CF with HD 7970 Ghz. I think AMD might release the HD 8970 in July along with the frame pacing driver. that would be a nice double whammy.

yea, those spec for the 8950 are funny to me. 8870 = 7870+40% 8950 = 7970ghz +10%? not a chance. now, a 2048 SP 8950 with 128TMU and of course 384 bit makes sense. given the supposed improvement to the architecture it should be 20% ahead of the 7970 ghz even though the specs would be virtually identical.

correct. thumb.gif HD 8950 with an improved front end with 3 geometry engines and 8 ACE 2.0 and improved ROP count to 48 can easily be 15 - 20% faster than HD 7970 Ghz with the same sp count and a 1 Ghz clock.

HD 8970 - 30 - 35% faster than HD 7970 Ghz.
HD 8950 - 15 - 20% faster than HD 7970 Ghz.
HD 8870 - similar perf or 5% faster than HD 7970 Ghz.
HD 8850 - 25 - 30% faster than HD 7870
HD 8830 - 15% faster than HD 7870.

yea, I'm thinking 20% with any per core performance gain. a 48 ROP 7970 would likely be 10% faster right now on the same chip with no other changes. card is really limited by the ROP count, even if they are more efficient than before.

If there's a remote chance of the next gen AMD cards launching within 2 months, I'm seriously questioning my pending 2x GTX 680 purchase...
