[BitGamer] EA ceases all gun-brand licence deals - Page 11

So EA's reasoning is because it subliminally effects youths? I agree but that's not why they did it.

They did it for money. To cut costs, to improve profit.

To be honest I wont be buying the next shooters anyway, I'm kind of over them, same old same old, the so called "stories" are the same. pfftt.

How about a company like EA tries to branch off into publishing other games that aren't fps oriented in a way? Yes I know the market sways in terms of FPS' being a large portion of the market, but they need to branch out if they think knowing a guns name will effect youths. In actual fact is wont matter what naming scheme they use, kids will know how to differentiate an rpg from a m16 to a python.

Is this thread still going?

EA has NEVER paid for gun licenses. They can't cease to do something they never did in the first place.

What that story failed to make clear was that EA has never paid or been paid to feature specific guns in its games. This year's titles will be no different.

But please, don't let the truth get in the way of some good ol' mindless bashing and blind hate.

EA owns the rights to license out the Porsche brand. I wonder if they will let Turn10 and Polyphony Digital use Porsche in their games without needing to pay the license fees. Well, with EA being EA if Turn10 or PD do use Porsche without paying the licensing fees I'm pretty sure they won't like it.

With all the publicity that computer games offer to manufacturers, they should be paying to have the real name of their weapon or vehicle included in a game IMO.

Car magazines don't pay Ford or GMH to show Ford or GMH vehicles in their magazine - they'd actually charge Ford and GMH if Ford or GMH wanted to put their latest vehicle in their magazine - this is how games should be. If a manufacturer wants their product name used, then they should feel lucky it is being used or be charged for it, it shouldn't be the other way around.

How many of you would actually know the names of all the weapons used in battlefield and cod games if they never used their actual names? I doubt most would know half the names of those weapons if they never used the actual names in the first place.

True, it would just bug me with different names idk why. It's like if a game has the Accuracy International AW or AE and call it a sniper rifle. It's just such a distinguished sniper rifle and action it would annoy me redface.gif

I'm also one of these that was so happy that they had select faction weapons at the start of BF3 i couldn't stand in BF BC2 when everyone had to start off with the AEK.

Call it an AWP. I think that's vague enough that you can get away with it. I think you can call most guns their original names and just leave out the company's name.
