650 Ti Boost SLI or 670? - Page 3

And I assume you know little about the 192bit bus on these cards (650 ti boost, 660, 660 ti), or you've probably never owned one that's why you over-exaggerate it tongue.gif. On 1080p x8MSAA, they will be fine in a LOT of games, and even perform significantly better than your 256bit 670.

Go see benches on the first post of this link, then compare it to yours. You'll see what i am talking about thumb.gif

No "third"? dang. Haha. I kind of disagree and agree.... with ONE card at 192-bit memory bus and 2GB VRAM; it will suffer at 1080p with 8x MSAA on very graphic intensive games like Metro, BF3, Crysis... MOST games however, the 600 series cards will plunder over. On top of that, a 192-bit memory bus/2GB VRAM card may also have poorer components/poor PCB that wont allow for very high overclocks (but then again Kepler doesnt really OC much after stock compared to Fermi). On top of that, you are limited to a maximum "performance" given by the 650ti boost SLI combo (as 2 is the maximum)... so as soon as games comes out next year that are more suited for 700 series cards... you may have to completely re-upgrade your 650ti's to either a 670 FTW/680 or a lower end 700 series to match the performance and needed VRAM.

I do agree that if you have two 650ti boosts, in SLI (they will do great) for now... at 1080p. But if you are planning on future proofing your computer, more games will be requiring more VRAM unless NVidia can create a more efficient anti-aliasing than MSAA with a lot less performance hit. If you are planning on ever going 1440p and 1600p, a SINGLE 650ti boost will have a lot more trouble than a single 670 with 256bit/2gb... and may suffer more than the 670 even if you go SLI. I owned the 660ti's and the move to my 256bit/2GB EVGA 670 FTW has been the best move ive done.... the 650ti boosts will be at full usage on max settings, while my 670 is at 50-65% average on load in Battlefield 3 max settings. I also think the 670 FTW or even non FTW overclocks higher than the 650ti boosts since it has the improved PCB.

So if the OP is going for 1080p and is okay with the "dead-end" maximum of only 2 SLI cards, then the 650ti boost x2 will be a great option that will do good for most games. But if OP wants to play games in maximum settings at 1080p or even higher resolutions or even MULTI-screen, and plans on even adding a second 670 (in the future if he needs it for games) .... then the 670 would be a better option as you have the option for TRI-SLI or more. Battlefield 3 never puts my 670 FTW at even close to 90% load, im at stock voltage with 100% power limit under water and my 670 FTW seems to handle BF3 very smooth.

That is just my two cents. 2cents.gif
