[red quasar] First benchmarks of Haswell non engineering samples. - Page 21

I get the feeling that this article could be true,VRM's create heat, and given the tiny size of the on-die VRM's this is probably more pronounced.Admittedly this is a good idea for low power systems/mobile as heat difference is probably negligable,desktop...not so sure. And as stated in earlier post just how good are the on-die VRM's?How reliable/stable are they in certain scenario's?

I was waiting for Haswell, still am.However i think I'll end up going Ivy due to above concerns, big peace of mind for small performance trade-off.

Also its likely high power/desktop CPU's are nearing their limits in terms of die-shrinks,mobile can probably go plenty more, just my theory.

What a piece of trash in terms of performance glad they beef up the server version to 150W better be a lot of cores instead of a high clock. biggrin.gif

Absolutely. They hit the IHS with a chisel and made A FEW THOUSANDTH OF A MILLIMETER DEEP dents on it. Oh wait. They're on the sides of the IHS. Now explain me how those are going to make a 20ºC difference in temperatures.

Come on rolleyes.gif

I don't care what the box looks like. What I care more is how the haswell performs compared to ivy in terms of OCing, temps, and other stuffs. I hope that Non-ES 4770K benchies is fake. Well we'll see after NDA is lifted and real benchies are posted everywhere.

Everyone knows that Malaysia chips suck. Remember how bad they were with Ivy?

I am not getting this idea that Intel is holding back because of the lack of competition. if you have the ability and can currently produce a marketable item it is a really poor to decision to not release. To many risks involved at that point. Same point was being made in the Nvidia thread. What if AMD is on the cusp of releasing a monster of a processor, say by early next year. Intel waiting would only hinder total sales, more so if the AMD chip is on par or just under Intel's non-released chip. And at that point it becomes a price war. So profits on said chip would be lower due to the new competition that they didnt have before. Honestly it sounds more like the drunk saying " I can quit when I want to". Prove it. Saying it doesnt make it true. If Intel indeed had the means to release they would. The Titan proved people are willing to pay a premium price. Why not release and reap huge profits while you can.
