If you still enjoy games I see no reason to quit. You could try starting an MMO such as Guild Wars 2, no monthly fees to pay so you won't have to feel forced to play. Yesterday I also happened to give a shot at Team Fortress 2 and to my surprise it's awesome, since it's an fps It usually bores me instantly however I still manage to make a few matches in the span of 2hrs.
Also if you like rpg's you can check out Path of Exile (Diablo style MMO) and Neverwinter. These are both awesome free to play MMOS, currently are in open beta and should be officially released around summer I believe.
Also regarding the expensive part, you should check out www.gog.com
they offer both modern and old school games for a small price, every weekend there's a discount on some games. You can also check bundle websites (list below):
Games should be fun and treated as a hobby, if you're bored maybe you should play less or try other things (but definitely no reason to quit :-). I tend to self learn html coding when I'm not gaming.
