The reason why I suggest that is that I have found that I do not like even numbered Eyefinity setups at all. I.e., 2 screen, 4 screen and (I assume have not tried actually 6 screen one myself) 6 screen Eyefinity suck. In these configurations you end up with bezel "in the middle of your face" either vertically, both or horizontally. In that regard odd numbered configurations like 1,3 and 5 are better. While (last two) still have bezels they are not in your focus and as such are much easier to ignore most of the time.

Having the setup "curved" is not essential, but it helps a bit with 5 screen setup as the displays are more perpendicular to your location that way usually and at more uniform distance from you. The way your screens are done it would be probably a lot more straightforwards to just have all 5 in straight line and with IPS it is not that highly essential to have them perpendicular to you.

That way you would get basically 6000x1600 pixel screen array. Approx 45'' x 12'' with ~ 47'' diagonal.

yes
eyefinity6 sucks for gaming and do stuff but for fun why not wink.gif

for work I will have 3x1p + 1(main) (all IPS)
i only wait for mst hub and one lvds controller

trying to figure out if anyone has used these controllers, all signs point to them working perfect for me, but I want to know before I drop the money on them.

For more info on what my plans are.
I have a m17xr4 with a gtx680m in it, I am ordering 2 extra screens (with lid/bezels).
Goal is to make a set of monitors that I can plug in and triple screen with my laptop smile.gif

Already asked and answered. Moddermike made an impressive controller for it using a modified version of his mbp controller.
However he is incredibly busy and hasn't had time to work on it for a while.

Edit: his was lg version with 3d 120hz. That controller might work for the auo panels. Give it w try and let us know.

I thought I'll comment a bit about the experience of using these 3x1 portrait ipad ones.

For a start the setup I'm using.

The distance from my eyes of the center-most screen is approx 30 cm. It has been mostly work related things over the past week (as I have set up these at work) but I did take opportunity to fire up few games as well one evening. My "work stuff" covers wide variety of things, most important these are (in no particular order): reading pdf's, using web for reading stuff and help, writing python and matlab scripts, running numerical simulations (python/FORTRAN code), visualizing results in matlab, writing papers and reports (in LaTeX environment mostly), some light image manipulation (GIMP, just sort of drafting some kind of illustration or cutting images down in size), some light symbolic math packets (wxMaxima, Mathematica) etc.

So the comments on experience of using these. In a nutshell its mixed bag. In environment where you can ramp up default font size it's pretty pleasant actually - very high number of pixels in a place where you can take it all in at glance, however, if you cant easily scale stuff or environment contains parts that do not scale the ppi is a bit too high for comfortable use. Using screens so close to ones eyes seems to be a bit more straining for the eyes than using larger screens at somewhat greater distance (or might be side-effect of some text remaining relatively small), however, on the other side these screens force me to remain in ergonomic position more often (as if I just ooze around in my chair the screens move a bit too far from my eyes so I have to sit with straight back if I wish to use them comfortably). Regardless of some issues in using these screens I'm willing to say that I do love them - even if they are the counterfeit versions with horrible back-light bleed - the sheer number of pixels and crystal clarity of picture if they work well is quite nice to have. For games these screens work well - at least these few I tried had UI's that were scaling pretty reasonably. Aspect ratio of the array is pretty good as well - not quite as wide as 5x1 portrait with 16:9 screens but wide enough to provide slightly wider FOV than default without getting into visible distortions regions at the edges (which is most visible using 3x1 landscape eyefinity, but also detectable with 5x1 portrait eyefinity still). For gaming the setup is just pretty. Visually the bezels "feel" about same size as with my 5x1 portrait setup (~40mm at 90cm distance) there is just couple less of them with only 3 screens present.

Overall I believe the setup is "worth it" if your budget is limited but you want to have high number of pixels in your disposal. PPI is a bit too high for me to see individual pixels even when I'm looking real close. If I take off my glasses and make good effort I just barely can make them out. As I do not own a 27'' 1440p Korean I can't comment from experience which one would make more sense to go with limited budget. The price range is roughly the same for 3x1 ipad ones vs single 27'' Korean. I guess it would end up on personal preference and what the person is after.

yeah. i got the 30 inch 1600p yamakasi. and damn that thing is seriously too big and in my face. i really need ~15-17" panels. my desk space is extremely limited.
Any idea where to get the controller for like $30 or so? The roznyo one at $110 is pretty steep especially given that I want 3. The screens are only like $60.

Good to hear the update thanks Duniek.

for the apple displays try abusemark, rozsnyo, emerythacks, tarduino, or for similar lvds panels that duniek is using? ebay and aliexpress has a ton of em. there's a person nyjtouch who specializes in some of them.

I am using this one http://abusemark.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=47 for the ipad screens. It was the cheapest I could find back when I ordered them, probably still is unless someone has managed to produce anything cheaper. Note that there is limit in place in that store with "2 per customer" - however, the guy managing the store is very reasonable so I dropped him mail asking if I can order 3 and he was ok with that. The new revision that is for sale in there seems much better than the revision 0 ones that I bought. Improved firmware and well thought through component placement compared to revision 0 (which I am using atm).

Is it possible to use three panels with 1 HDMI interface? Or would I just need to suck it up and get a ultrawide monitor?

Theoretically - yes - practically no. You could get 4K screen running at 30 Hz though over HDMI.

The "theoretical yes" means you would need custom built converter making 3 panels to show as one to the HDMI. So for all practical purposes its not really viable unless you really into writing custom firmware and want to do it just for kicks. In my opinion the best bet about getting good screen estate over single HDMI would be getting a 4K screen. Say something 32'' or so. That would be approx the same as running 4 x 1080p over that HDMI at 30 Hz.
