World of Warcraft lost 1.3 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2013, Activision Blizzard announced in a first quarter earnings report
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said the number does raise some concerns and the company expects more players to shed their subscriptions next year.

I guess people have grown tired of drinking the same purple juice day in and day out.

Or...

No one can pay for these silly subscription fees anymore. Has there been a rise in homeless?

It's only been extremely popular a decade now essentially - it's bound to happen. Even if it loses that many, it's still well above the majority of the same genre.

The losses are pretty substantial, but the overall numbers are still strong. For it to still be #1 is pretty amazing considering the number of "wow killers" that have surfaced since the game became popular.

For me it was my first hard core addiction to an mmo and I've met tons of amazing people through different guilds throughout the years. It's definitely quite a game.

The game is almost 9 years old now? It had a good run.

To be expected. WoW has been out for 9 years now. The graphics are getting tired and old and even with major expansions, it's the same old grind. Losing people is a given.

Content is too old and boring at this point. I quit years ago because a month of new content once a year wasn't worth it.

It's not #1, hasn't been for two years. League of Legends overtook it as most played game in the world. (Based on hours played).

Actually, depending on how you look at things, WoW NEVER was number one, nor is LoL now.

Maple Story is the record holder for number of accounts.

It all depends on how you want to look at the classification numbers. But I digress.

My use of #1 was generic, didn't mean to russle people's jimmies here. In terms of subscription based games, I meant.
