Corsair Vengeance Heatsink Removal

Thread Starter
Hello.
I have just bought 8gb of ram from Corsair and have discovered that there is not enough clearance to place them in my motherboard due to my big Enermax ETS-T40 CPU Cooler.

I really need a safe way to remove the heatsink as the only alternative I have is returning them and buying something else. (Very inconvenient)

I have seen a few videos saying just pry them apart(not going to do that) or use a heat gun or hairdryer to soften the adhesive and pull them off.
It appears that there is some kind of clip or latch on either side of the ram if that helps?
What should I do?

I have an Asrock z77 Extreme6 but am not exactly sure if these are dual or single slot.

Most likely going to return corsair ram for a refund and get these for the same price

Is it worth it and will they fit?

Well be advised that if you removed the spreaders you will void the warranty, so your best bet is to return them.

Crucial and Corsair both have low profile modules and just about all of them have modules with "regular" (old style) heatsinks so you ought to be able to find something that fits. GSkill Ripjaws, like you linked, aren't anywhere as tall as the Vengeance, but they are taller than the regular sized "Ares" style sinks. Bottom line is that you should be able to find something, but I would suggest that you measure the available space and then work from there.

either as reefa said ^^^ but on an extreme 6 lets just say from socket - mobo side
slot 1
slot 2
slot 3
slot 4
will give you dual channel. i am pretty confident with Enermax ETS-T40 even with P/P fans they will fit. it is not a big cooler. i use the same slots with G.skill TridentX RAM and a Prolimatech Megahalems cooler in p/p which is bigger and still have the top fins attached.

and yes thoose ripjaws you linked should fit easy as well

Never pry between the heatsink and circuit board because there's a good chance the RAM chips will tear from the circuit board, and it happened to one reviewer who was trying to show readers the RAM chips behind the heatsinks. Instead take a thin razor and press between the heatsink and chips, preferrably while applying heat from a hair dryer (not heat gun -- way too hot).

Heat them up a little and Vengeance spreaders come right off. They aren't stuck on very hard at all.

Thanks. However they do seem to fit in the 2nd and 4th slots which are also dual channel.
These tips will be handy though if I ever get another 8gb in the future.
