Athlon 64 3400+ OC help

Thread Starter
I decided to get the best performance out of my system, I need to learn how to overclock.

I have an Athlon 64 3400+ (STOCK COOLING)
Code name: ClawHammer
Voltage:1.488
CoreSpeed: 2210.29MHz
Multiplier: x11
Bus Speed: 200Mhz

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136162
EDIT:
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231047

What do you think I can OC this thing to with stock cooling and 6 80mm fans.

Im really not sure how to overclock, all I know is to change something in the BIOS and then use Prime95 to check it.

Thanks in advance

lol... I can only clock it to 2.255. If I go to three prime95 gives me an error in the first 3 minutes.

The guide Enterprise linked too is very good indeed, you might want to take a look.

What are your stock and OC settings?
- ram divider/frequency
- ram timings
- Vcore and Vram
- HT link multiplier
- Vchipset
- temperatures: CPU, chipset, case

-_-.... I... tried to follow those guides. I ncreased the cpu voltage by the smallest incriment. BAM my system wont start.. -_-... I started to panic and then reset cmos through jumpers. That was enough for me to stop trying to OC ever.

Unholy.. Don't give up cause of that lol. Everyone at one point gets to that stage where they think they broke their pc but then realized about the cmos clear First off just to get started, that ram you have is probably whats not allowing you to go anywhere. Heres a helpful hint. You have 2.2ghz(200 * 11 multiplier) now right? Just go in and set your multiplier to 12, instant overclock to 2.4ghz You can go higher probably just up it and test, if it is unstable add more voltage, if it doesnt boot clear cmos. (13*200 = 2.6ghz) but you will most likely need more voltage for that. Overclocking amds with a multiplier increase is the fastest way since you can actually change the thing intel for that

If you want to raise your fsb then you need to : Try setting a ram divider so the ram is slower than the cpu, then raise the fsb a little. (try for 2.4ghz) Also, lock pci at 33,agp at 66, and pci-e at 100. HTT is at default 1000 and you really should stay near 1000 (4x200 by default) so find HT and lower it one notch. Reboot and test. If its unstable up the voltage. Voltage:1.488 so you need to be higher than that.

thanks Xecuter,
I just went into my bios to try and change the multiplier, but its not listed as something you can change. But I really dont want to try it agian because I have no idea what im doing. Ill just buy new parts that are faster and not worry about OCin (im not sure how much 200mhz will actually help). I just wish that they hadnt moved to DDR2 yet because I just bought 2 gigs of DDR400 RAM. Now If I want a new CPU ill have to buy a mobo+cpu+RAM+PSU ... ugh ( I only have $600 to spend! )

Hey guys, sorry to revive a dead thread, but I think its better than creating a new one with basically the same topic.

I got a scythe infinity (which BARELY fit in my case lol) and now I think Im ready for some more OC help. I finally figured out why my compter wouldnt start up that last time I changed the voltage. I removed it from "default" to ".800" because it was the option after default and I thought that meant I was increasing it like with the FSB. But I was really setting it to .800 and it wasnt getting enough power. I now have it at 210 fsb w/ an 11 multi and it runs at 2.3Ghz (1.525 vcore) with 35c idle and 42c load (its only been tested for about 40min stable, im going to futher test it tonight). I will update this later with my RAM timings and FSB, because I dont under stand "RAM dividers" and all this hoopla.
