SLI has an extra frame buffered compared to single GPU, because each GPU needs it's own frame to work on and Windows' flip queue buffer remains constant at 3 frames.

Couldn't you also phrase that as "I'm using SLI to take a high setting from 30fps to 60fps because it isn't playable otherwise"? What you're saying really just a different way of stating the same thing, though semantically not exactly.

As with all things, the typical usage pattern going from single-card to SLI is probably somewhere in the middle (i.e. both higher settings and higher FPS).

Yeah that's obviously correct about metered SLI having the same input lag as a single GPU assuming they're getting the same fps. That however wasn't really the point in the whole input lag part there. The difference between SLI and single GPU was there just so people could understand the theory behind it. And saying people go SLI in order to increase the detail only is bit too much of a generalization for me. Tons of people go SLI to increase the settings and also get a fps boost at the same time. Not that many games out there that don't run at good frame rates even at the highest settings on single GPUs. For example, I can guarantee to you that a ton of 120hz users are going multi GPU for the frame rate. however, again to the point;

The whole video is about frame metering. The point was to show metered and non metered multi GPU setups work when it comes to input lag. And there he is entirely correct in saying that the metered method does have its advantages when it comes to worst case scenarios. Non metered can be faster in getting the input to show up but it can also be slower. There's more variation in the non metered method when it comes to input lag.
