should I upgrade my ram?

Thread Starter
hello everyone

i have 2 sticks of 2 gigs ram from transcend.
model: JM1333KLU-2G
its 1333MHz .
my "cpu usage" gadget in win7 says that im using 44% of ram. i didn't notice a difference when connecting my tv aswell and duplicating my monitors.
my system is in my sig. if I would buy, lets say, a corsair platinum, will I get better reasults? do I need to get more gigs, or faster latency? or maybe faster MHz ram? I don't excpect to buy a new cpu and mobo in the next 2 years or so, but i want to get better overall responsivness

Why is using 44% bad? IF you never break 95% then there is no need to upgrade, and 1333Mhz is still acceptable.
BTW, more monitors uses up more video ram, not system ram.

so if im going to upgrade my ram, more gigs won't cause any benefit?
what would happen if I will get better ram? i mean like will it make something in my pc faster? loading applications?

This

if your not even using half of what you got, then dont upgrade ram. If your looking for better responsiveness from your system the #1 upgrade for your system is a SSD and install your OS on it.

yeah I know... i am considering buying a 128gb ssd and put the os on it aswell as photoshop, lightroom, and some games. but my mobo doesn't support sata 3 and i dont think that the faster boot time worth it.

The Ram is very cheap now a days but that could change from one day to another you will get some gains if you go with 1600Mhz above that the gains are minimal if you have the money for 8Gb/1600MHz why not after all we are speaking of 50/60$
If you change board to lets say Z87 you can take the ram with you so no money is wasted.
OS responsiveness will drastically improve if you get a SSD i would say 64Gb is enough for OS and programs and a HDD for Fotos/Movies/MP3/Flacs/Games what ever.
You can find 64GB SSD for cheap check the Sata 2 ones in the marketplace.

^That pretty much sums it up. And upgrading to faster RAM WILL give you SOME performance increase, as in like better system responsiveness and "snappiness" of applications etc. Minimal, but perfect for picky people like me tongue.gif And going from 4GB to 8GB will give you some more headroom for using things like Photoshop and heavier applications, they tend to use a fair amount of RAM to do rendering.

so ssd will make my whole pc faster, not just the os? (assuming that the only thing on the ssd is the os)
