[VG247] Wii U: latest system update has increased CPU, GPU speed – rumour - Page 11

Some guy claims that Wii U is using Power6 CPU from IBM not 750:

Quote:
* CPU: IBM [=PowerPC=] 7xx-based tri-core processor "Espresso" reportedly clocked at 1.24 [=GHz=][[note]] however, it has been rumored that the CPU has been over clocked to 3.24 [=GHz=] after the 3.0.0 update[[/note]]. This is an evolution to the Broadway chip used in the Wii, is 64 bit and uses [=Power6=] tech[[note]]When IBM has said that Nintendo has licensed the Power7 tech from IBM, Nintendo is not using it for the Wii U[[/note]], explaining its backwards compatibility.
* GPU: AMD Radeon High Definition processor codenamed "Latte" with an eDRAM cache built onto the die reportedly clocked at 550 [=MHz=][[note]] however, it has been rumored that the GPU has been over clocked to 800 [=MHz=] after the 3.0.0 update[[/note]].

If this is true then why Nintendo is using a server chip inside Wii U? Well Nintendo does have the money and resources to modify extensively and POWER6 is out since 2007, a year after Wii's launch so maybe they were working on successor since the launch of Wii?

Vampirr, its not unusual, i saw a article when the 360 had been out like 11 months maybe and someone from MS admitted they were allready working on the next system.... thumb.gif

Now, what I question myself is, why does OCN have a need of 'Thread contains WiiU in the title? BASH NINTENDO!!!111!!1'

Not sure why everyone loves to bash the company that basically single handedly saved video games from the 1983 crash.

The most difficult part of understanding if this is true or not is the fact that no one knows what's in WiiU or what it's actually capable of. It's pretty difficult to speculate on hardware changes when you don't even know what the hardware is.

People bash because of basic fanboyism. It stems mostly from "The PC Gamer Master Race" on here for example, although simple "macho hardcore gamer on the PS3/360" isn't completely out of the question. It all stems back to stuff like [EXPOUNDED] and the time your parents would only buy you one console and not all of them. So, people furiously defend the console they got for christmas and bash ones that are different. It's all kind of stupid really.

So, when I see people bashing one console or another, all I see are little kids complaining that they couldn't get the cool game console and are stuck with their Sega Master System or something. So hey, take it as a compliment! "Nintendo sucks!" actually means "I'm so flippin jealous of the Wii U!" thumb.gif

This, i remember skyrim on ps3 being unplayable due to the lack of ram, then they released a patch and after that it runned great.

Wii-U doesn't need killer graphics if it produces games with quality gameplay. I'd say this rumor does not speak truth.

Just like the first update which was 5GBs... yeah, so if you bought the 8GB you got screwed.

Thank you Sherlock

thanks for the laughs, in the case of that game it was just buggy as hell and the patch corrected it just like fallout 3.... biggrin.gif

Well HDD of PS3 was also another factor, an SSD considerably solves the problems with Skyrim and removes texture pop up problem in Rage.
