[VG247] Wii U: latest system update has increased CPU, GPU speed – rumour - Page 6

I read every comment and here is my opinion:

We all know that Wii U's OS was not that stable so I assume that at higher clocks it could crash, since they updated their OS several times its one of logical ways to assume why Wii U was under clocked if that is the case. Xbox 360 design and hardware is old now 7-8 years while Wii U hardware is new and modified by Nintendo so it has some significant improvements over the previous generations of consoles thus reducing power consumption and heat.

Wii U heatsink is more than enough and design of the Wii U console is minimalist and simple, Wii U can handle a decent boost even thought sudden bump from 1.24 to 3.24Ghz for CPU and GPU from 550mhz to 800mhz is seriously significant in total and if its true I doubt Nintendo would do that without doing any tests of their system since they don't want bad publicity that their consoles are getting fried after an update.

Wii U CPU is on the level of Xbox 360 CPU that is comparable to Core 2 Duo in "raw" performance, Core 2 Duo is performance is close to a half of Sandy/Ivy Bridge i3 while Wii U's GPU is 50% faster than Xbox 360's GPU and now the conclusion of what to expect from these rumored bumps that Nintendo may introduced into 3.0.0 update.

Wii U CPU at 3.24Ghz can be compared to almost 3 Xbox 360 CPU's or we could compare it to least an Ivy Bridge i3 or an FX43xx lineup, Xbox 360 and Wii U share similar architecture family while we can't compare really to desktop CPU's that are x86-64bit architecture. As for GPU, with 250mhz clocks bump it should be now 65-75% faster than Xbox 360's GPU. This is all just estimation of what we can expect from Wii U if the rumor is true...

I could have believed the GPU speed increase. I could never believe the massive CPU clock speed bump.

So basically some guy made something up, and now loads of people are arguing over it? Cool thread.

Nice that Nintendo released an update that improves performance, but no company is stupid enough to down clock a console that much prior to release.

As for the people pointing to underclocked phones and the 3DS, well done, they're hand held portable devices. If you're comparing them to consoles you are bad, and you should feel bad.

Thing is, we will never know unless someone releases actual hardware numbers. All we have is pure speculation and guessing, crude oscilloscope observation at best, except for the very raw hardware specs (namely tri-core IBM processor, and AMD Radeon GPU).

...which has not been released yet. AMD said they were going to commercialize the same APU used in the PS4, albeit with modifications.

That was not the point of my post, though.

The rumor isn't true. There could be some bumps in performance but unlocking speeds like that, if possible, would have already been discovered by hackers.

Also, the Wii U CPU is 3 Wii CPUs slapped together and overclocked from 700Mhz to 1.2Ghz. It's not that powerful, many devs have reported it's actually weaker than the CPU's in the PS3 or 360. It's fine for nintendo, though you can clearly see them losing third parties once again.

Nobody confirmed or denied the rumor officially, wait for Nintendo's statement.

Wii U shares similarities with Wii's CPU while of course implementing various improvements, tweaks and changes to the architecture. Wii U CPU is on the level of an Xbox 360 CPU while PS3 CPU is stronger than Xbox 360 CPU. 3rd party support for the Wii U is not great but still it has some AAA titles and 3DS had the same thing and now it booms with 3rd party support, we just need to wait for results and confirmations involving these bumps/changes. Haters gonna hate as always.

Well Xbox 360 has far better cooling, look at those heatsinks and fans.

Wii U can achieve GPU boost to 800mhz and 2.48Ghz while we don't know full extent of Wii U's hardware as compared to Xbox 360's. Nintendo modifies the living atoms out of the hardware they use to an extent its not even funny. They are the mad scientists, we can't expect their next moves.
