well if true, i said IF biggrin.gif it will be just the shot in the arm it needs because pretty much EVERY dev that passed on the WII-U complained of slow cpu speed thumb.gif

I don't see any problem with the Wii U CPU running 3.24ghz. For one, the Xbox did it on a 90nm originally, 65nm in 2007. The new Xbox 360S heatsink is about the same size as the Wii Us except it has a fan directly on the heatsink and they are both at 45nm. So saying that it would generate too much heat is not a cause to say this is false. Newer architecure and power consumption definitely make it possible and as has been stated previously the Wii U sips power compared to the Xbox 360S even. I could also see this being a boost only thing where the power is needed on demand for certain intervals and only reverts to base speeds at the Wii U menu or less demanding portions of games.

As it stands though, this is all speculation and Nintendo, being as secretive as they are, probably will never tell us either way.

Well, From what I understand the whole point of using the chip they used at the clockspeed they used was backwards compatibility with Wii games.

Could it be that for Wii games it runs at 1.25whatever ghz, but for WiiU games it gives it a clock speed bump to help them perform better?

I could see that making perfect sense.

It also coincides too well with DICE saying WiiU is too slow for new Frostbite. Perhaps Nintendo has unlocked a turbo mode sort of thing for WiiU games. The stock WiiU frequency is far too low for a stock PowerPC part and it doesn't have the core count to make up for it.

You make a good point, it seems people are forgetting that an overclocked console CPU will just run the games faster since they're tied to clock speed, since all consoles have the same hardware.

I see nintendo is attempting anything to get back into mainstream news, even if it is a lie. Maybe it will help them sell 100 more consoles.

I kid, I kid. tongue.gif But back to the topic at hand, if true regardless it's a great thing to help juice the system a bit, might even get some devs to reconsider (had they not already known this may be implemented). And regardless better performance is better performance, especially if people are actually able to discern the improvement.

Unfortunately looking to the bigger picture, things look a little grim. The PS4 has some impressive features, and this time it isn't strictly pushing power, it's also taken a more outsourced approached to design. They met with devs while in early stages to help find ways to make the system more appealing to work with and support, plus the sharing features are definitely at the very least worth looking into. The next Xbox, while rumored to be somewhat similar in performance to the ps4, is still relatively mum on details. We know that there is some improved kinect that allows for more granular detail and some subscription and always on info but that's it. Depending on the price points of these two consoles, the Wii U has some tough competition coming, especially given the slow adoption of the Wii U and lack of big titles/dev dropouts.
