Low Noise, High Static Pressure Intake Fans

Thread Starter
Hello Everyone,

I am searching for a low noise intake fan for my Antec P280 case. I want high pressure fans becuase the HDD cage decreases the flow area behind the fans. I have been searching around with a budget of about $15/fan and I cannot make a decision.

Please Help!
Dan

How does the rest of the forum feel about this? I like the corsair fans, but their pressure isn't that high.

Guessing 140mm fans won't fit in the front of the P280 , which rules out Thermalright TY-147s:

~$8-11 Gelid Silent 12 PWM --> probably not enough Static pressure for that case http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?p=FAN-PX12
~$10-15 Cougar Vortex HDB 120mm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553005
~$14 Cougar Vortex HDB PWM version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553006
~$15 Gentle Typhoon Ap-15 (non PWM) --http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/scge120mmsic2.html
~$20 Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 120mm (only can be bought at NCIX US which charges absurd shipping of $10 for low orders)
~$13 Corsair SP120 (voltage/PWM)

Noctua NF-F12s aren't that great in Pull

Thanks man, but I've seen all the comparisons. I rely more on word of mouth from current users than some perfected scientific experiment. Those tests only compare one variable, maybe more with price but that's not what I'm looking for, sorry.

dan

edit: I've decided on the SP120 Quiet Edition fans. I didn't believe cougars specs when they claimed to have amazing airflow from 1200rpm and <20dBs. I can't tell if their marketing won me over, but I chose CM. Only thing that I have purchased from them before so I hope they are well. Ordered 3 of them to intake. 2 to pull from outside and 1 to push towards GPU

Cougars do perform quite close to the claimed specs IMO. BUT if you did your research you'll find that quite a few people, myself being one, can't stand the whine noise that are present in some fans within certain RPM range, present in the PWM version.

I love the cougar, but for case fans and future fans for my 212 Evo, definitely going to try Corsair SP/AF Quiet Edition, if they really are quiet.

OP, I would love it if you posted some first hand opinions on the SP120 QE when you get some time with them. redface.gif

Go with either Scythe GT or Swiftech Helix. The former is the better choice if it's in your budget.

I looked into the Scythe GT before. (1200, was it?) Are the CFM really as they claim? Also, are they quiet? (Sorry to half hijack the post.)

EDIT: NVM I was thinking of the Kaze Jyuni 1200

I don't know about how they sound in a case, but just blowing through a radiator the 1850 rpm Scythes are silent when you run them below 1200 to me. My pump makes more noise. Gaming I normally run them 1375-max and although I can hear them it's still quiet. Mildly louder than my pump but blowing a lot of air. Honestly though below 1000 rpm I don't think they are very effective. Yes they are moving some air but not much, ok if doing anything but gaming.

Thank you very much for the info. +Rep thumb.gif

I couldn't really compare since I have a full-air system and don't plan on water/closed loop any time soon. tongue.gif
