The 30% number is IPS improvement over bulldozer. It's part of AMD's 15%/year plan.

I believe Steamroller will improve much more in IPC than raw clockspeed.

Intel should put a FEW more dollars into the OEM heatsink.
yes I know most get aftermarket cooling but the OEM heatsink just seems so effin' cheap.

Why pay for a heatsink you aren't going to use? I'd rather they eliminate the heatsink and drop the price $10.

I've got three of the dumb things clanking around in my closet now. I sure don't need another one ('cause as you said, they are junky)

wprime and some other multi threaded ones look interesting.
Preformance decreased a tad.
On the other side e.g. cinebench shows improvements.
All in all I guess not everyone will sell their IVY just to get a Hassy.
And i guess that new chipset does not have the uber features to justify the "upgrade".

I could see a reason to include a HSF with the 3570K, as it was the only Ivy Bridge i5 with the HD4000 graphics and there would have been a small niche of stock-clockers who bought that it for that reason. Now that all the Haswell i5 chips (except for the BGA -R models) have GT2/HD4600 graphics, I agree that there really isn't a reason to include a HSF with the 4670K.

However, people have come to expect getting a "free" HSF with all of Intel's retail-boxed mainstream chips, and in the end it doesn't really cost Intel too much to include them. The funny thing is that I wouldn't be surprised if the additional freight costs of shipping retail boxes with those HSF units is higher than the actual price Intel pays their suppliers for the HSF itself!
