Strange OC result in Battlefield 3

Playing BF3 everything on its highest sitting, I was getting 100% GPU Load on default 1000/1400 and it was maxing my GPU hit 62-63C at 1.170v.

With OCing my card to 1180/1750 It now only uses about 50-60% GPU usealge and the max it gets is 54C, with 1.256v.

How can the game use 40-50% Less GPU usage, for what's seemingly a pretty average overclock?

I'm absolutely loving the 180-200 FPS though, and the temps are giving me these strange feelings in my pants tongue.gif

200 FPS is the standard cap of Battlefield 3.

gametime.maxvariablefps 500 in console would fix it.

Or use higher gfx settings.

How are you getting 200 FPS on all high settings with only a single 7970? If you only have 50% gpu usage, that would mean that you are getting that framerate with 50% gpu usage... Are you playing at 640 x 480 or something?

Nope, only 1680*1050 single display.
I have my 1090T BE at 4.28 ghz which helps alot vs the 4ghz it was at earlier

Everything maxed except I have motion blur off, I like to see clearly when I have a high sensitivity tongue.gif

It goes down to about 120 on certain maps when you overlook the entire map, generally stays around 160 on average.

I'm actually really surprised about the lack of screen tearing in the game at such high FPS vs my 60Hz LCD. Other games even 70 fps is noticeable...

It's a nice job on the rendering code.

What FPS is to be expected with a single 7970 in BF3 then?
