Monitor Audio RX series VS Dali Ikon Mk2 series

Thread Starter
So, I've been looking around for some possible speaker choices for the future. I'm about to buy my first non-rent apartment, so it's just at the planning stage. I've set my eyes on these two manufacturers, Dali and Monitor Audio, since they're both top-quality manufacturers, both have won a few awards with these sets and they're also well available here (yes, note to everyone, I live in Finland, so I might not have all the great stuff available). For a budget I'd say something around 2500€/US$3200 (flexible).

The living room will probably not be that large, what should I say, maybe around 25m2/270ft2. Wall material is pretty obviously concrete since it's a high-rise building. Another thing I really can't decide on yet is will I get a ~60" plasma tv or a projector with a ~90" canvas. I'd like to hear your opinion on these speakers and also what other speakers should I look for, and should I go surround or stereo. I'm also looking for an AV amplifier, but let's leave that out of the picture for now.

And now to the main thing. These are the speakers I'm mainly looking for:

Monitor Audio
RX2, RX6, RX Centre

Dali
Ikon 2 MK2, Ikon 6 MK2, Ikon Vokal 2 MK2

At least the RX series looks a lot better and I'd definitely use them without the covers tongue.gif I'd like to set them in a 5.0 setup with RX6's/Ikon 6's in the front, RX2's/Ikon 2's in the rear and RX Centre/Ikon Vokal 2 in the center. I'd also love to get a matching subwoofer, but it would be pointless, since it would be unusable there (yes, I know it's the heart of the set, but neighbors might disagree). I've already had a good listen to the RX series and they were absolutely brilliant. I've only heard Dali Epicon and Zensor series but not the Ikons, so I really can't decide anything before I hear them too. I'd love to have a pair of Epicon 2's, but they'd be 5000 euros and at that price point they're a bit out of my budget redface.gif

However, what's your opinion, should I just go for a stereo set instead of surround since the room isn't that big, or maybe just buy 2 pairs of smaller speakers and not the floor speakers at all. Placement is a challenge but I should be able to manage it with the floor speakers too. If I decide to go cheap I'll probably just get a pair of Behringer B3030A's.

The main usage for the speakers would be music (it has the highest priority) and occasional movies, console gaming (mostly driving sims like Forza 4 and Gran Turismo 5) and watching tv broadcasts. I have a diverse music taste, from metal to pop to orchestral soundtracks to trance.

Guess that's it, the text is a bit of a mess and sorry in advance for grammar mistakes and such thumb.gif But if someone decides to take the time to read and answer I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Speakers of that price and quality are pretty much beyond the tastes of most OCN members.

Try your questions on AudiogoN, or AudopKarma.

Personally, at that price range, I think it would be a mistake to part with your $$$ without an in person audition.

Consider Vienna Acoustics as well. I prefer Vienna to Dali, but I have not heard any of the Monitor Audio stuff.
