Controller vs key/mouse for fps

Thread Starter
well my xbox has been dead for some time now.
steam gave a 2 day black ops 2 free play pass.
everyone was much high rank than me in the lobby (no newbies other than me starting from scratch).
one other thing, i rairly play multiplayer, i was a zombies player for 75% of my cod playing.

now on here i have fought my argument about keyboard and mouse being no better than controller.

while playing on the PC with Xbox controller, my K/D is actually a little better than on console.

theres no auto aim in pc, so people can stop with all that nonsense.

just glad i could finally play this game on PC to have definitive proof to me and my friends, that all that jabber was just people being trolls.
hope i can soon buy this for pc so i can get back into my zombie killing.
really not looking forward to paying for the season pass again.. or the game for that matter.

This proves: nothing.

Just because you're a little better without auto aim doesn't mean a damned thing about your performance while using Keyboard and mouse, and as you've clearly stated in the first post: You don't even use keyboards and mice, so you're biased. The only variable you've changed is your platform for playing with your controller and the only variable changed there is the system and I'm pretty sure the majority of OCN members prefer PC's to consoles.

i'm talking about all the discussions about how people using k/m would destroy anyone using a controller.
i've tried to setup tf2 with the controller but there's something screwed up with it.

using a different method of running/shooting/etc doesn't give any type of benefit over another is my point.

Just because you are facing baddies in pub matches doesnt really mean anything. Plus blops 2 is the easiest game ever, I played it for a few hours for the free weekend and I have like a 3 kd and 1k kills with a 41-0 round in there. Face people who are good with kb/m and you will get owned.

I'll play a match against you and we can see how much better your controller is...

In all seriousness though a mouse gives you much better controll than anolog sticks and the best team using mice are going to own the best team using controllers.

Keyboard and mouse is better for FPS, RTS, RPG, MMO, pretty much everything but racing games.

targeting and such is undeniably better with a mouse / kb. mouse is way faster than even the highest setting on a controller stick. if you can't for whatever reason use the standard wasd setup a handpad such as the nostromo or logitech g13 is what you are looking for. helped me tremendously over just a keyboard. but it's the same either way, keys + mouse > controller every time. i just can't seem to get a handle on wasd. seems dumb to me after using my n52te with wasd mapped to the dpad on the thumb position.

didn't an fps let console people and pc people play together awhile back?. they stopped it because the console players stood no chance, they got wasted every single time. wasn't even close. don't recall the game but i know it happened a couple years ago.

*EDIT* note: i only play mmo's, don't really like fps and such.

I would destroy you at Black Ops 2. I would bet that you would rage within minutes. CSgo + me+you w/controller = you might throw your PC out the window and burn your house down.

Just sayin'.

Keyboard + Mouse > Controller If youre better at KBM

Controller > Keyboard + Mouse If youre better at controller

There are options for people, slight auto-aim is not enough to differentiate an inexperienced player with an experienced one. Just because you have played a couple games doesnt mean you can come to the absolute answer that since you do "better"... it doesnt mean controller is any better than KBM. It is all preference.

Youre comparing apples to oranges.

this is what i'm trying to convey.
if keyboard and mouse is always better then why do i do so well.. type of rhetorical question.

i don't doubt some of you can stomp on me using your k/m there are other controller users that can stomp me also. (i'm not a god at video games)
this entire convo stems from talking about wanting to use my controller to swap over from console. every last pc gamer said, pretty much the same thing, "it wouldnt even be worth playing because you'll struggle to even get one kill" type of talk.

who might this post help, people like myself that used to only game on console and dont want to use k/m and try to get good with using them.
also to show that just because you think that k/m is the only way to play, its not, and to help some people off of their high horse. wink.gif

Like I said before the best people with mice will beat the best people with controllers. Talking about pros here.

For most of us there are people out there that can do better on a controller than people using mice but that is just because, for the most part, the people using the mice just aren't very good. If you learned to use a mouse as well as you use a controller I guarantee you would agree with everyone else that it is much better and that it gives you much better control than an analog stick does.

Either way a mouse gives much more accurate movements compared to an analog joystick and that can't be denied. You can move a single pixel with a mouse very easily, trying to do so with an analog stick is almost impossible, especially while in a heated fps match. And whether you want to move a single pixel or do a 180 degree turn you can do it with a mouse but not with an analog stick. I've played my fair share of hours of Halo 4 and I can tell you, you either have lower sensitivity and you're screwed trying to do 180 turns or you turn it up and can't do those tiny movements.

This is one of the many reasons why there aren't any cross platform fps games. And like I said for most people whatever is the most comfortable for someone is generally what they are going to be better at, but once you start getting into the competitive level a controller won't stand a chance against a mouse for aiming in an fps.
