I have a Raidmax RS-500S

Thanks for all the concern. The fact that people actually care is amazing.

Get rid of it before it destroys your computer. Give it to your worst enemy. And then get a power supply in the 500 watt range from the OCN Recommended PSU list.

As the posters before me have mentioned, your Raidmax isn't a well-engineered power supply. If your budget allows, I highly suggest getting a different one.

Assuming that you're Stateside, here's some recommendations in your current wattage range:

Seasonic G-Series 550w semi-modular $71 shipped w/ promo code EMCXRWX96 (ends May 12)
Rosewill CAPSTONE 550w semi-modular $76 shipped w/ promo code EMCXRXL27 (ends May 15)

Both models have two PCIe 6+2 connectors, so they would certainly be suitable for a single Radeon 7870.

Is it really THAT bad?

I don't feel like spending 70, 80 bucks on a new PSU.
I'm 13 so I don't really have the best income, and my parents wont buy anything for my computer.

And, if I do REALLY need to, are there any cheaper PSUs that are still good.

I would rather modular or semi-modular, but if non-modular saves me enough money, then fine

Thanks

Its that bad yes

But look at its this way it would costs more for your parents to buy you a new PC after your PSU has destroyed it or burned down the whole house in a extreme case

Its a fire hazard

This is an example of what can happen with a cheap power supply.

There is an XFX 650w modular power supply for $40 after rebates at Newegg. That is your best bang/buck power supply at the moment.
