Odd requierment I need some help on- extremely compact cooling =)

Im planning one hell of a build I wish to not divulge much details on until I start.
I need cooling for (roughly) an i7-3770k socket lga1155.
(not settle on the exact cpu, but it will be a quad core 1155)
Simple enough, but the cooler attached to the motherboard needs be less than 1.6 inches. I know of some low profile waterblocks that will work, and a way to route the tubing, but I would need to find a pump that will fit in the 1.6 inch clearance, as well as a radiator that fits in that space, and can accept airflow sideways.

Underclocking is NOT an option, and external water cooling is NOT an option.
Also, I do NOT want to cut ventilation in the top of the case (like an intake).
For air cooling-
What about sideways airflow on this one with the fan removed?
http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2587

For the water-cooling option-
I found these radiators-
http://www.micropumps.co.uk/TCSAccessories.htm
(2 near bottom of page)
one with these dimensions
5x25x9mm
other with these
75x50x9mm

The small of which I can tilt at an angle and blow air from within the 1.6" clearance.
Would like 2 of those be able to reasonably cool an i7 at all? and if not do you have any better suggestions for this and a pump, or a good air cooler? ( i can handle the res, think I have one small enough already)
I would like to avoid having to make something myself.

I know if I post here Ill have my answer faster than just researching on my own, and I'd like multiple opinions on this.
Ill keep hunting, and thanks for the help ahead of time.

UPDATE::
2.5" now. I have more room than I thought now that I got the case (***?)

ZALMAN CNPS8900 Extreme for performance or SILVERSTONE NT07-1156 for quiet. They seem to be the best on review sites.
I hope this is not a 24/7 max load rig. For daily use these cooler should be fine. (I think)

BTW I love Gundam seed, currently finishing destiny.

lol gravitar is like herpes. But yea I definitely enjoyed it, even if they played the dramatic music a little too much. biggrin.gif
as for the cooler, Ill definitely look at it. Problem is I think the standoffs are 7.9mm, and Idk if that thing will have enough room to breathe. Although it seems to perform well, and I don't mind slightly higher temperatures as long as it stays quiet and I don't need top side ventilation.
Thanks for the input!
I'm starting to like air cooling more than water cooling, at least for the CPU.

Think this'll keep me sub-60c most of the time?

Personally I doubt it. I'd use something with a blower on it al la rear exhaust GPU cooler style.

Have you considered this:

Yeah, I know staples, but you can get it other places. This just had a picture for you.

Edit: And it's cheaper at many other places.

the problem I'm gonna have with that is the fact I wont have any way to attach on an ITX baord with a pcie slot, though I love the idea, if I didn't need a GPU i'd go with it.

hey what about the NH-L9i @ only 37mm
is this a wise choice?

use a drive bay pump res. they make single bay ones too.

definatly a consideration, along with a dual 40mm rad, but NH-L9i is looking like a great option, as water cooling will allow me less room for a in case psu, and I may have to make a laptop style brick, which I have done before and I can make about the size of the xbox360 brick, but it would be really cool to have enough room for in case power! (though a modified psu, I think I can fit a 700w psu in!)

The one advantage of watercooling normally would be the ability to get an msi 670, and add it to the loop (it has a smaller board without the heatsink, allowing me to put the res behind the card and modify the card to be a 1 slot, and slip an SSD or two under the card which will be laying flat ), however there is not a radiator big enough I can fit in to do both cpu and gpu.
However if I move the custom psu out I'd have an extra 4 inches on the opposite side of the gpu.

However if I can confirm the NH-L9i with a couple of centimeters of clearance will keep the 3770k in safe temps for gaming and near max load without sounding like a hair dryer I'm sold on it, as the 700w modded PSU will fit in the case with SSDs on top of it and a 2 slot GPU on its side, cutting a hole for the rear fan in the bottom of the case to give it independent airflow.
Jeeze when I make this I might as well make the top a pancake griddle.
