WIP: ASUS 7970 DC2T crossflash to Matrix Project and gen Info thread - Page 11

hello all. im a little late to this party but ive recently had minor success unlocking my dcu2t. i had tried almost every dcu2 bios flash that techpowerup lists but no luck. so i moved onto the powercolor bios listed by jm-back. it resulted in no display but i found that if i let it load all the way to windows log in and reset, i could reflash back to stock bios(015.012) and it now loads up with voltage control. problem is that if i shut the system down/full power down it relocks the voltage at 1093mv. im sure im not the only 1 who has hit this wall. any thoughts are appreciated

edit- powercolor vortex 2 bios worked for me, it just takes down all but 1 of my display ports

GPU Tweak 2.2.1.4 definitely unlocks voltage for me with stock bios (recently bought; non-top). However, is there any way to avoid having to use Afterburner as well to increase overclock limit? I tried installing latest GPU Tweak, increasing limit, uninstalling then installing 2.2.1.4, but it still caps at 1125.

Yepp,

Use the enhance OC range option in GPU tweak, the trick in v 2.2.1.4 is that you have to press the advanced mode button twice for the enhance OC range option to appear.

Guys I found and interesting info; may be the reason why I can't flash old bios, you can't flash new bios. As you see in picture, Chips are different, may be new 7970 Top chips are XT2!? The same with matrix. This is an old review. So there are 2 chips - XT - XT2?

GPU Shark says mine XT

None of my real matrix platinums ever said XT2, I think it says that only if you use the ref. amd bios smile.gif

Ok, finally got around to doing some testing with the Dc2T card.

Tried all Matrix bioses, all does the same thing. Windows wont recognize the card, says displaydriver is not installed. Did it properly with fresh OS install(w7 HomePremium X64 SP1) and complete wipe/clean of AMD drivers. Conclusion, Matrix bioses is a no go on my card. And most likely on other 015.012 cards.

The powercolor vortex bios flashed fine, no problems at all. Except locked voltage in AB/Trixx. Did not try the modded trixx cuz I didn't find it and ran out of patience smile.gif Did try a few different versions of AB/trixx tho.

Modded my stock bios to allow +50 powertarget though. That will help overclocking both mem and GPU to the limit at the same time. You might have noticed that it's hard to max OC both gpu and mem w/o getting stability issues, higher powertarget(in essence higher TDP) should help with that.

Unsure if it's ok posting links to other forums, so "hint" check TPU forum for the bios mod tool.

From my understanding there was no way to mod any 7970 bios. Can you please provide a link.

This really works, thanks twisted1 smile.gif I did adjust to 1180Mhz - 1.269V, it worked smile.gif

I'll edit better bios than I can share smile.gif

Default V is 1.300, but you can lower it (1.226V) I think it changes what you give when editing. I'll test latest GPU tweak.
