Will be getting fullcover waterblocks for them and a real rad and all that good stuff. Just one of these cards take alot of space, two is a pain. And three is just crazy.

And with the waterblocks you you can change the back I/O to 2 slot, and it looks alot better too smile.gif

Anything you can provide would be great. We can make this thread our own with the accumulated knowledge we've each gained. It could become a great source of info for OCN's ASUS 7970 non-ref cards.

It's the different PCBs that worries me about this type of project as one poster has already indicated.

The Matrix Platinum was built for LN2 and heavy overclocking, while the DCU II was a more mainstream solution. I might be able to get together a list of the parts on the PCBs later on.

Its turning out to be a lottery on whether the Matrix bios will flash or not. I can get it to flash to my DC2T, but not functional passed being able to boot and load windows. The card doesn't brick, so its not too painful to fix. Yet others with a DC2T can flash the Matrix bios with zero problems.

I would recommend putting an excel spreadsheet together.

In particular for everyone that tried, ask them what version of the PCB they have. For example, version 1.0, version 1.1, etc. Figure out which version is working well. Then identify the differences between the PCBs and BIOSes of the different versions.

My best guess? It's the versions of the DCU II that were made around the time the Matrix was in production that will accept the Matrix BIOS.

Like Dj_Oxy as an example, he can flash the Matrix bioses and get it working no prob. But he cant use the bios that came with my card that just needs gpu tweak 2.2.1.4 for full voltage control(have confirmed w/ multimeter) From what I understand you have the same card that I do, guess what, Matrix bioses dont work for me neither.

I've helped out like 3-4ppl over at my local Swedish forum and the pattern is exactly the same pattern, for some with never stock bios the matrix bios works. But the older bios that came with the older cards(like mine and yours also) doesnt work for them, windows doesnt recognize the card and it wont install.

Pictures... commin up! smile.gif

Let's think: you have different PCB and bios and you can unlock with 2.2.1.4

I can't. Also can't flash your bioses. And you can't flash Matrix bios.

But with the same bios number DCU II bios (not top - lets say different PCB) can unlock my card.

So; 2.2.1.4 definitely unlock bios. If my turns matrix can't unlock. If default bios, can't unlock. If DCU II bios can unlock!?

Anybody has normal DCU II here (with this bios number - 015.023.000.002.000000)

So it's not about hardware (if hardware locked, how can I unlock?)

I think it's definitely about GPU Tweak... I don't know how it works but checks bios I think. It doesn't care about the card or hardware, just check bios.

So old bios: why doesn't work for me?

New bios : why doesn't work for you?

I think my card is similar to Matrix

Your cards similar to DCU II (with old bioses)

I really don't know any normal 7970 DCU II with new bios can flash to matrix bios!?

So at these days, if you buy a new card , may be buying DCU II better than DCU II Top smile.gif Because DCU II with new bios can be unlocked with Gpu Tweak 2.2.1.4. But, TOP's gpu's are better I think. And also overclocked to 1000Mhz

@ericeod thanks for the first page edit smile.gif

Let me share another thing: I did also upload video for bios flashing. In this video, I did flash Matrix to 7970 Top and than 7970 Top to Matrix again

You can watch in 1080P quality smile.gif

And guys want to add:

I did test both matrix and DCU II bios with furmark: 1920 x 1080 Full Screen - 15Min

DCU II bios is more better for Temp..

Matrix bios worked @1180Mhz with 1.256V but gets 87C-88C

DCU II 1200Mhz 1.3V - 75C-76C
Guys what does this "burn" button on GPU Tweak!? 2 people can flashed Matrix bios, worked. But they both touched burn button and no displaying on screeen after. They can flash 7970top bios again, but can't matrix bios!?

Crashes when windows starts, like me that tried 15.12 bios.

I said turn off PC, unplug power cables etc... Wait 5 min than try again. Let me see what happens smile.gif

So: Don't Touch BURN button!!!

I'm on DCU II bios now: I did play Crysis 3 Highest Settings - 1920 x 1080

1200Mhz-1.3V / 6000Mhz .1.600V

No crashes, no artifacts... Everything was fine.

My suggestion for who has DCU II TOP with 15.23... bios, DCU II bios will be better.

Full Unlocked voltage, More stable, better temperature..
