Idle CPU temp 53C -- No OC

Thread Starter
My entire system is running pretty hot, CPU 53C, System 27C, GPU 54C all at idle. I havnt done any overclocking on this system and I would like to, but my temps at idle and especially under load are already at the highest temperatures they should be, at least according to the suggestions I found on these forums (awesome forums btw, been really helpful) Im just trying to figure out why that is. It was my goal to get my CPU up to at least 3.0Ghz (I have a 6600) without getting any cooling stuff which Ive heard is or should be relatively easy but I dont think that it is possible with my temperatures so high before I even start. Any help is really appreciated

Im willing to bet your heatsink is seated improperly.

Take the HSF off the CPU, then clean both surfaces off very well with a lint free cloth and some alcohol of the rubbing variety.

Then put a small amount of Artic Silver 5 (about the size of an uncooked grain of rice) on the processor, and spread it into a thin layer, removing any excess and making sure its even.

Then carefully seat the heatsink back onto the processor and clip it down, then it should be all good
