One 8 pin and one 6 pin rather than the one 8 pin and one 8 pin

So I received a new card due to an RMA. This card is an Asus 7970 DCU2. It has two 8 pin power connectors. My power supply only has one 8 pin and one 6 pin. Will I be able to use the video card temporarily. I am going to buy a 6 pin to 8 pin in the near future, but I need to test out the video card.... help is appreciated thumb.gif

I know on some MSI cards you can get away with using one 6 and one 8. Not sure about Asus though.

Just tried it. Plugged in both, and this card has some leds which tell you if the card is getting enough power. The 8 pin gets a green but the 6 pin gets a red ):
