120Hz 3d Monitor recommendations!!!

Thread Starter
hi all,

i have a a gaming system which im looking for a monitor for, however id like one which has nvidia 3d capable, 120hz, and something which is 27" or more i dont really have a budget but anything say between $500-650 AUD would be awesome

any advice would go a long way as im not sure when it come to monitors and stuff,

also im a big fps gamer so would i benefit from IPS or TN panels?

im currently running a 2-way gtx 680 classified setup if that is a factor

and one more question is that if im running 2 gtx 680 4gb cards in sli and i eventually go to triple monitor would i see a massive impact on fps drop and if so how much would or should i expect to drop roughly (in other words im big on smooth gameplay so is it worth the nvidia surround)

thank you kindly in advance for your input smile.gif

I ran surround with 3 Alienware 120hz with 680 4gb's Sli
I was getting 120 fps 90% of the time, Depended on which map i went into, mostly 64 man server.

Sold them off and went back to one monitor a Asus VG248QE 144hz Monitor I would suggest these in surround or just one, One will constant on ultra no problem.

Only reason I ditched the surround is I was one of those with focus problems lol

Asus VG248QE 144hz Monitor on Sale now for 260.00 US

Corrected price,
Thanks NitrousX

I still run 2 680 4gb's.
No one makes 120hz IPS monitors for as I know.

Sorry also I meant 260.00 not 460.00, Wrong stroke lol

ASUS VG278H - built in 3D emitter. New Nvidia 2 3D Vision glasses which are wider and feel more comfortable than original.

Monitor has very fast response time gaming. I find 3D vision Blu-ray movie watching very brilliant in color and 3D just pops out amazingly.

Here is a good review NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 featuring the ASUS VG278H Screen from Hardware Heaven.

Originally these monitors had severe back light bleed issues as sometimes newer panels deal with quality assurance when products are first released. I've not heard this is still an issues any more than the normal - lottery - when buying a new panel.

Light boost improved 3D vision so it's not dark any longer. I've had both and it did make a world of difference. Nvidia Light Boost adversely can now take advantage of the monitors built in Nvidia Light Boost technology by enabling it when 2D gaming and as long as you can keep 120 FPS pumped it gives CRT motion gaming.

When I bought this monitor for my 3D setup now on second rig I wasn't aware that the monitor would actually gain more value when I learned this.

Zero motion blur LCD!!! (nVidia LightBoost hack, looks like CRT, looks like 480Hz)

You should also consider going over to the [Official] Nvidia 3d Vision + 3d Surround Club for some great insight on much more if your new to this.

Here is a sample I made without Light Boost on 2D gaming (prior to knowing about using it) if you'd like to see what it looks like gaming. I used a camcorder on this one. Fraps only running to show FPS.

For a 27" your only real option is the Asus VG278H. Just make sure to avoid the HE. It has issues in 3d.

You can save a few bucks by going with the VG248QE or Benq 2411t. They should show a little less crosstalk in 3d. On the other hand I hear that 3d effects look better on a larger display.

He isn't from the US. So that doesn't really help the op much.

What sort of issues? I have that model monitor and I don't have any issues at all. It's working great in 3D. I replaced a VG236 and I'm not sorry at all (considering the $450 price tag! eek.gif)

It has strange checkerboard artifacts in 3d. I guess that its called an "amplified LCD inversion artifact".
