drain port

Thread Starter
I have an NZXT switch 810 case with dual rads. My Bottom one is a Phobya 2x120mm double thick rad. It has 5 G1/4 ports. Since I have to change my cpu block and I'm thinking of adding a visual flow indicator( for looks) I was thinking of adding a drain port and getting my entire loop done right..

How ever the port I would like to use is right next to the psu. I have about an inch clearance between the psu and then about 2 1/2 inch before the side panel since thats where the drain should go towards.

In order to save space I would like to find a rotary 90 degree male to male g1/4 so I can directly connect a valve to it. However I can't find one. Also I don't even know if I have the room for it.

This is obviously my lowest point in the loop and the only port on this rad that is accessible.

I can't see down there with the side panel so wiring isn't that big of a deal and it may look like the molex connectors are in the way of the port but it isn't

Any advice would help.

Takes up less space than the previous one... either way I gave up on drain lines on loops that have compression fittings.

Either way I have that fitting and I use it in a very very tight spot.

You will need a male to male adapter but the space the adapter adds will not be pointing towards the PSU.

This is the smallest fitting you can get... It is only a dime to a nickel thicker than the smallest amount of metal that could accept a g1/4 thread and that is the thumb screw.

If you want tighter you need to go with a bitspower 90 that is not rotatable and even then they might not even be smaller and you have to luck out with where they get tight which could be pointing the wrong way.

Oh also they make very very thin male to male adapters. So look around.

Givmedew i see that under the options i can add adapters. There are some barbs bit the first option is a g1/4 adapter. Any idea if that would be a male and what I'm looking for?

That is as thin as you are going to get for a g 1/4 to g 1/4 adapter.

That will thread into the female side of the 90 leaving it male g 1/4

There are thicker ones if you want that... The thickness won't interfere with the PSU because you will have already 90'd it. If you need a very very long male to male adapter then buy an SLI adapter. Personally I do not like SLI adapters though... I have had several styles end up leaking.

Another option is to put the drain port on the top of the lower rad. Obviously this means that the lower rad won't drain, but it will drain the loop enough to allow you to disconnect tubes, tilt the case etc.

This is how I have mine set up:

drain arr.PNG

You can see it on there, near the bottom.

Put a bowl under the extender, take off the seal plug, uncap the res.

Thank you but I found what I was looking for.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/15697/ex-tub-1240/Alphacool_G14_Thread_90_Rotary_12_ID_Barbs_-_Deep_Black.html?tl=g30c407s1577

I believe that will be the answer.

I'm dumping the idea of a valve for a plug at the ending of the tube. I believe this will solve my issue. I do know that when I unplug it water will just come straight out. I bought a funnel as well for that.

Hopefully my solution will help others out! I'll get back to you guys if it doesn't work out.

I have a tube with a plug, but it's a little different than you're setup.

Are you still trying to fit this between the rad and the PSU?

If so that thing comes about 1.8CM out. I have one.

You can buy that other one I linked and just buy a barb fitting and you will have the same functionality with 7-10MM to spare... I know it is going to be a tight fit for you.

Also... be careful what plug you use... I use a plug but it doesn't have a lot of pressure on it and it is outside the case. Some of the plugs can leak. Mine was a cheap plastic one.

The tube the furthest to the left is a drain and fill port and double as an extra reservoir it is at the lowest point of the system it goes out the case and is plugged above the highest point in the system. When I want to drain it I can easily pull the tube out and swivel it down. The tube is 2FT long so it can easily go to a bucket.

Through the mesh you can just barely make out the end of the tube and it has a hose clamp on it to ensure that the plug stays sealed. There is air in the line but again this tube is a reservoir when it is in that position.
