Will the AMD FX-8350 (AMD3+ socket) fit in my MOBO, M4A79XTD EVO (amd3 socket)?

Hi every one on OC.NET
Will the AMD FX-8350 (AMD3+ socket) fit in my MOBO, M4A79XTD EVO (amd3 socket)? I'm currently running a AMD Phenom II X4 955 BLACK Edition OC to 3.8 Ghz. on the stock cooler. I need to upgrade the coolong on my CPU, but it may be just as easy to drop a new FX-8350 with a high end cooler in the MOBO if I need to pull my Phenom II to clean off the old thermal paste. Is the FX-8350 worth the $$$ to upgrade. If I do this what could I sell the AMD Phenom II X4 955 BLACK Edition for? It may pay for the high end cooler on the FX-8350 right. Thanks for the help.

Hi.
Short answer is no. You need an AM3+ board for a AM3+ CPU, even though you can use a AM3 CPU on a AM3+ board.

I can confirm that you cannot fit AMD FX-8350 on the M4a79XTD EVO as I own one myself.

Is there any specific reason you are upgrading the CPU?

You can clean the CPU on the board with minimum hassle.

Probably get around £50 for it if you sold it (AMD Phenom II CPU's recently went down in price).

Is it worth the upgrade? That depends on why you are upgrading taking into account you have to buy a new motherboard as well.

No true reason to upgrade, more research for products to add to my "wish list" if they are compatible with my system. It sounds like my AMD Phenom II X4 955 BLACK Edition may be close to top of the line for my MOBO, other than a X6 I guess.

A 6 core upgrade from Phenom II isn't really going to give you a massive leap in performance. Also for the current cost of an AMD Phenom II 6 core CPU to fit your board (going by prices here in the UK) that's worth buying you can buy an i5 2500k or an i5 3570k. So you would be better off going for a high end AM3+ CPU with motherboard, or one of those two Intel CPU's with a motherboard, to make the upgrade worthwhile around that price point.

I say this from my own experience as I recently upgraded from a AMD Phenom II 965 BE and M4a79XTD EVO myself, so these were the sort of things I was asking and looking at also.

Thanks for the info Lifeshield. It sounds like I'm still pritty good with my system as is, minus CPU cooling.

You could look at Zalmans CNPS10X Performa for a cheap but very good cooling upgrade. I had one in my old rig and my temps were outstanding with a second fan attached in push pull. Best £25 I ever spent.

yup that one was on my list, also the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. I also need to get some more case fans in this baby.

I'd go with the Zalman over the Cooler Master personally.
