I choose the 3rd option because AA only marginaly increases IQ for me but for a huge cost.
And Metro: Last Light apparently drops below 50 fps on 1080p with SSAA on SLI Titans if you can believe totalbiscuit. But he said he hardly noticed any difference between ssaa on/off.

Didn't expected though that so many people value AA higher than resolution.

SSAA is supersampling, so duh.

Actually it does. That's why the thread was created with a poll. That's why I voted and left my opinion. You're welcome to disagree with it but don't tell me, or anyone else, that an opinion doesn't matter when it's been asked for.

You can scream from the rooftops about it all you like, you might be in the majority opinion, but arguing with me over my opinion isn't going to change it in the slightest. thumb.gif

This,

My opinion to "maxing it out" is:

When you say that, saying "maxing it out" isn't desriptive enough, you need to say a statement such as "Maxing BF3 @ 1080P" and to me this would refer to being over 60FPS at all times (apart from the first few seconds because stuff is loading). Well maybe an occasional dip to 55 when people spam grenades but you get that and to add to that "maxing a game" to me is with no AA BUT for example you'd say.

I would say:
I.E My 7950's can max BF3 @ 1080P with 4-8x AA.
Whereas someone with a single 7950 would be saying:
My 7950 can max BF3 @ 1080P.
Note how they don't mention AA? Because they run with none thumb.gif

Honestly with the way my method adds the level of AA to the end of it allows to be a more precise measurement.

That's too extreme an example since you most likely won't enjoy playing it at those settings, because you know it can look so much better on a halfway decent setup.

I'm one of the dying minority who thinks video games are played to enjoy the content and not to track double digit figures.

I'm too lazy to read thru the Sweclockers thread, but it doesnt look like we will reach a consensus, although currently 52% voted for Option 1. I voted OTHER because none of the choices represented what I consider maxed out, although Option 1 is the 'closest' of the available options.

IMO there seems to be two main groups of people-

1) People who call 'MAXED OUT" when a game is playable on highest settings @ a specific resolution.

I don't like this definition because 'playable' is subjective. Some people are happy with 30fps minimum, some people arent. IMO, these people should just say "I play BF3 on Ultra @ 1080p, it runs great." Playable, but NOT 'maxed out'.

2) People who call "MAXED OUT" when a game's minimum framerate exceeds monitor refresh rate on highest settings @ a specific resolution.

Basically the only confusion with using this as a definition is because the majority of LCD/LEDs are currently 60hz, but then some enthusiasts have 120hz monitors, and then there are some custom refresh rates used by those high resolution Korean monitors. Those 120hz monitor owners need beastly setups like SLI Titans if they want most games 'MAXED OUT', and even then in some games it's just not possible.

There's alot of debate about AA settings but if the game has a HIGH/ULTRA preset then we should be using those settings. When no preset exists we should use maximum available, although I can see how there can still be confusion with the different types of AA.

Well yeah if AA x64 is the highest in game setting that is what should be used for the game to be "maxed". Its simple. If there is a setting you can set higher then the game is not maxed. If you run BF 3 on ultra with no AA then you are not maxing it you are running it on ultra.

rolleyes.gif it's all subjective, I like the 1080p + AAx4/AFx16 + 60fps
post #130 of 138
For me it means when you play a game at the maximum settings at your resolution. Whether or no it's playable is a different story.

Now that being said if I wanted to max out a game it would be at at least 60fps, max screen resolution, and 8x AA. So I guess the first one would be applicable to me.
