Seriously? Weakest argument ever....... As long as you post "Hey i'm getting 120FPS at 640 x 480 res".......then I am pretty sure nobody would care as we would all know you're playing on a weak res. Like it or not if you max the games settings.....then your max.....even at 480 res. Resolution is 100% irrelevant.

Its that sort of elitist attitude that pushes people away from PC gaming. "If you cant afford to piss money away on a pointless titan and a 4k monitor go home noob, herp derp." rolleyes.gif

Maxed should be all settings at ........ maximum! Resolution doesn't matter its something that you state alongside i.e. 1920X1080 maxed out or 640x480 maxed out.

What he means is that we would have an idea of the performance. Most of us have an idea how a performance at one resolution translates, roughly, to performance at another.

I think we can all agree that 120 fps at 640x480 would be roughly halved by doubling the resolution, with AA applied of course. Obviously this isn't strictly true, especially in the newer cards that have AA processing at the hardware level..

However, his point is valid, even if it is poorly made.

Difference between actually Maxing a game and "Maxing" it? How exactly?
Vsync, On or Off? Whats your Opinion? VSync off for sure!
Difference between 2, 4x and 8x Antialiasing? Prefer AAx16 where possible, gtaiv has a very distinctive difference when it comes to AA.
Difference between High and Ultra, any difference? (Where Applicable, such as BF3) And is it worth the added performance cost? I would love to play anything at ultra, and i would pay for the performance cost if i were thinking of it.
Difference between other types of Antialiasing such as FXAA, SMAA or MSAA? Which do you prefer? Being honest here, i dont know the exact differences biggrin.gif
Whats your preferred Framerate? What is the difference between 30 and 60fps? 60 and 120fps? anything higher than 60 is fine by me, 30 seems a bit too slow nowadays. its impossible for me to play under 30, but its my green zone after 60.
What do you think running a game "perfectly" means?
60+fps on my display (1080p is current), with graphic mods (cars for gtaiv+enb and stuff) at highest settings possible (high/very high/ultra) with the most AA available.
with my 680, i hope to do most relating what i posted biggrin.gif if not the 780 should be powerful enough to actually do these.

The highest available settings for a particular application, vsync doesnt even enter into the equation - it must be off to get a more accurate reading of fps.

There is no debate about what is maximum, everything as high as it goes, including AA. If you can turn it up farther, then it is not maximum.

"Maxing a game" would consist of that at 60 fps minimum. However, maximum settings would, and should, still be used to set a baseline for a given setup. Then, as more people have input... you build a list of performance at various resolutions.

This is what ALL benchmark reviews do. I don't understand why this is so hard. They might vary AA settings a little to appease those who don't see a need to turn those up all the way, which is fine. But they state anything less than maximum for clarity. Then they run each variation at different resolutions.

You simply cannot specify a maximum resolution, only maximum settings and then compile a list of results for people to compare resolutions to their setup.

Any external modifications to graphics should not be counted, unless you are specifically comparing those. Not everyone has access, wants, or knows how, to use such things.

How is that contradicting myself? When talking about maxing a game res is (let me rephrase this for you) MOSTLY irrelevant. the only time its relevant is when telling us what you're maxing the game on, so we can get an idea of actual performance.

As many, many people already said res varies too much to set a standard. Like it, or don't like it, doe not matter. Res is merely a side note when talking about maxing a game.

Well said, I still don't see how people are having such trouble grasping such a simple concept. rolleyes.gif

No, it doesn't scale perfectly in any world. It used to be pretty close, but now no way.

The point I am getting across, is that for those of us that do test at various resolutions will have no trouble "eyeballing" from an incomplete list and getting a rough idea of what performance you might get at 1920x1080 when the only available data is 1600x900, and 2560x1920 for example... You can safely assume your 1080p results will fall into the middle.

That is just rough examples to help me illustrate my point. Back in the day, when AA was a big deal for a card (no dedicated aa hardware), then you would see "halved" performance, since the card is literally doing double the work with double the pixels (whatever resolution above it doubles pixels anyways). 800x600 comes fairly close.

But as I said, these days it doesn't work that way, just have to "feel it out" with experience.

Resolution doesn't matter? LMAO... Right, getting 60FPS @ 1080P or with just one monitor (even 1600P) is the same as getting 60FPS w/ Surround resolutions (3 x 1600P). rolleyes.gif

You are ignoring the point.

Resolution only doesn't matter in the sense that it varies so much that it should be counted in the hardware specs, not considered with settings. It is in the same vein as using a 670 vs a 680, for example. You can't compare different resolutions, and not everyone CAN run the same resolution... as such it must be simply noted alongside the results.
