You underestimate Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4...
HSA/hUMA... Rings a bell?
PS4/X720 has less bottlenecks than a PC plus Sony allows developers to get to the metal, that means below API level and since its architecture is x86-64 then developers can use full potential of it since they already know the x86-64 architecture...
Also I doubt PS4 will have Jaguar cores since they can switch to Jaguar+ cores that will be available. I doubt they need some serious rehash to replace Jaguar to Jaguar+ cores.
Don't underestimate consoles too much, look at God Of War:Ascesion and how it looks and how much it fit to 512mb of painfully slow RAM and how imagine what Santa Monica studio can do on an 7Gb GDDR5 memory available.
Don't act PC Master Race, remember original Xbox? All semi custom PC hardware and years ahead. Yes it had a PC hardware but it was semi custom.
Regardless just like the 360 and ps3 we wont get games that are optimized for the console's arch for at least a year after the consoles drop.
Also just like how 360 comparable computer hardware still isn't far away in performance. Kinda like how the x1950xt was able to not only play oblivion as well as the 360 while still being able to have more image quality because of the memory advantage. While it changes over time, getting to the point where it is faster then GPU hardware twice the speed doesn't always play out. A 8800GTX is still able to play games better then the 360/ps3 in 90% of games, really only some games like BF3 that just don't scale down that well on the PC plays worse compared to last gen consoles. And even then something like the GTX260 is able to beat the 360/ps3 in pretty much everything. Considering the GPU power we get from a titan, I would be surprised if next gen consoles will ever surpass a Titan in terms of gaming power at least anytime in the next 4-5 years.
Considering that the PS4's GPU is based on the 7790, the GPU difference between the ps4 and 7970 is about the same as the ps3 and 8800gtx. Plus the HSA tech is only part of the memory, We still won't have full HSA on next gen consoles. Jaguar+ cores will not be coming to the ps4, and Jaguar cores arn't all that impressive ether. While shear number of cores will help, these are still cores fit for low power devices. I would have rather seen kaveri in next gen consoles TBH.
The 360 was never able to beat out a High End PC upon release, neither will these consoles.
We will be getting 9970's on a PC by the time ps4 and xbox 720 are out. Consoles keeping up with PC's are well over with.Edited by DzillaXx - 5/12/13 at 2:29pm
